Autorollback Patches for CentOS 4 RPM
Hi all,
For anyone interested, I have just ported James Oden's
Autorollback/Autorollback-goal RPM patches to the version of RPM present
inside of CentOS 4.
The patched RPMs, SRPM and raw patches can be found online here:
http://hackers.progeny.com/~sam/RPM-Autorollback/
Specifically, you can find those for CentOS 4 here:
http://hackers.progeny.com/~sam/RPM-Autorollback/#wherecentos4
One of the goals of the AR/ARBG patches is to prevent failed RPM
transactions from leaving a system in an unusable state. They were
designed with Carrier...

Re : LOOPS
Dear lists,
I want to construct a loop in R, but don't know how to do it. I can do it
in SAS, but I prefer in R (which I am hoping I will off SAS for good
soon). Could anyone help me to convert the SAS codes to equivalent R codes.
Basically, the following codes were written to establish the sire gametes
or phases for daughter design for one markers two alleles.
Here are the SAS code:

rpmstrap & CentOS 4, feedback requested
...lopment and testing, but it could
also be used for simple installs or even upgrade and dep-closure tests).
It's called "rpmstrap" and it currently works "pretty well" with
i[3456]86 versions of Fedora Core 2, Fedora Core 3, and CentOS 4. You
can get it here:
http://hackers.progeny.com/~sam/rpmstrap/
QND instructions on using it to build a basic CentOS 4 chroot can be
found here:
http://trac.samhart.net/trac/wiki/rpmstrap_CentOS4
Up until now, it's primarily been an internal tool I've been using for
cross-distro work, but I would like to release it more generally....

Pedigreemm

FW: rsync(cygwin) problem
I installed cygwin this week on a W2K box w/all the latest SP's. The
version of rsync is 2.5.5 protocol v26.
When I execute #rsync -xa rsync://archive.progeny.com/CPAN I get the
following;
rsync: faliled to connect to archive.progeny.com: Connection refused
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(97)
I've read the man pages, searched mailings archives at both rsync & cygwin
sites to no avail. Sent an e-mail to NoVALug. Any...

Centos 4 - text based install - LVM ?
Has anyone gotten this to work ?
I can define a raid device but cant put a VG on it. I then tried
'autopartition' and it created an 'LVM' of sorts, when I tried to edit
it I wasnt able to as a message appeared saying, LVM editing was not
allowed in text mode.
Any help ?
Cheers,
Brian.

dtrace causing sigtrap?
Just to let people know what my big picture is, I''m trying to write a script
that will let me run a program, and name a progeny of that program
that I want to debug. My script should find the first occurrence
of that progeny, and run it until it finishes initializing the
runtime linker, but stop it before it runs any shared library startup
routines. (Failing that, I''d be okay with stopping it at main())
Anyway,...

Nested? Two-way ANOVA with repeated measures
Dear R-users,
I have 3 plant populations (fixed). Within each population there is the
same number of “families” (random) – the seed progeny of the same plant.
These families were exposed to 2 treatments (fixed) and their response was
measured (mean values for 25 seedlings per family per treatment are
presented in data table).
I would like to know if there is a significant difference in the response
of populations between the treatment...

Difficulty converting from RH 7.3 to Debian Sarge
I am running debian sarge 2.4.27-3-686 and samba version 3.0.14a-Debian
. The previous machine was running rh 7.3 (valhalla) 2.4.20-29.7.progeny.11, samba version unknown. I have restored all shares and directories. Most of users can access everything, however our login script will not run. For those users that cannot log in re-joining them to the domain not only works but then the login script runs as well.
Obviously we are missing a...

...ndors largely stopped certifying on RHL after RHL7.3 as
the announcements came that updates would only be released for 1
year. Then there were the other projects that added RPMs, etc... and
all that finally came to a head in the grand re-design.

Had _nothing_ to do with Progeny. Progeny just decided to take
advantage of the situation and offer $5/month subscriptions in the
absence of RHN as of 2003Dec31 (RHL6.2-7.3 EOL) and 2004Apr31
(RHL8.0-9 EOL). Of course, a...

Help with Subtracting an effect from a Mixed Model
...and I hope
someone can help. NOTE, I know I should be using the newer lme4
package, I just haven't had a chance to update my version of R yet, so
the question below relates to nmle.
I have data from a classical quantitative genetics experiment, with 33
sires mated each to 2 dams, with 15 progeny from each dam raised on 5
host plants (3 larvae per host). So the model I would like to run has
the following factors:
Host (fixed)
Sire (random)
Dam [nested within sire] (random)
Host * Sire (random interaction)
Host * Dam [nested within sire] (random interaction)
This is the code I am using f...

[Fwd: [AGDG-LIST:405] R Computing Contest]
...vely,
Covariates 1 to p are fixed regressions and p is a general number but
less than 20.
Heritability is a variable and should be requested by the program.
You are given a list of the animal IDs of animals with records, and
their sires and dams. Sire and dam
IDs are smaller than the IDs of their progeny, and all IDs go from 1 to
n where n can be up to 10 million
animals.
Tasks:
1) Estimate the EBVs of all animals using BLUP and mixed model equations
and
list the top 10 largest EBVs with associated animal IDs,
first ten levels of Factor A with solutions,
first ten levels of Factor B with...

GPL and R Community Policies (Rcpp)
...ors of original works do retain a legal
copyright on their original work in the sense that they are free
to modify this work and release it as non-free software (or
under a different free license), but this has no effect on the
version that was released under GPL. The latter version and
all of its progeny belong to the public (or to the FSF from
a legal point of view).
Please feel free to express your opinion on these matters.

variance components
Please forgive the cross posting. I sent this to Medstats and have not received any response.
I am looking for a good written explanation of components of variance (a.k.a variance components), in particular as they are used in genetic analyses. Does anyone have a suggestion? I am interested in books, articles and on-line material. I intent to give the material to some of my students none of whom

...an and Slackware don't sell "enterprise" products. And many such
projects are non-profit or otherwise. Unless Debian plans to establish
itself as a commercial player, they don't need to defend their trademark.
In fact, the commercial entity behind Debian is not named Debian, but
Progeny. Ian Murdock was smart in this regard. Red Hat was not.
Before Red Hat changed their trademark rules and introduced Fedora(TM),
Sun could _legally_ distribute anything it wanted and call it "Red Hat(R)
Enterprise Linux." Why? Because Sun had grounds to state that Red Hat

Migrating UW-POP3 mbox storage to Dovecot POP3 mbox storage
Hi
We have an mailserver running RedHat Linux 9.0 with UW-IMAP (imap-2001a-

using the default mbox storage method.
Some users have home directories and some dont. They only connect through the
POP3 server, not IMAP.
We are now migrating both hardware and software to an new server running RHEL
