Fun with CentOS and Windows
...need the most.
Glitches, with which I would be delighted to obtain feedback and/or advice:
1) In the boot screen, it tells me "CPU0 Memory information: single channel,
64-bits." I have 2Gb of DDR2 PC6400 (800MHz) memory - is this a problem, or
does it mean something else entirely?
(ECS NFORCE4M-A m/b, Phoenix BIOS 6.00PG)
2) While the system is booting up, it tells me:
MP-BUG: 8254 timer is not connected to APIC
What does this mean and is there a way around it?
3) CentOS does not appear to have the drivers for my video card or monitor.
I have an e-GEForce 7100gs card and an Envision en9...

Strange slowdown occasionally in CentOS 5.0
...- we're talking five to ten minutes.
I don't even know what information I should include here that might
help, but here's what I have running at the moment:
OS/Hardware Config:
OS : CentOS 5.0 (2.6.16-8.1.6 Linux kernel) x86_64 with latest updates
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+
M/B: ECS NFORCE4M-A
ram: 2GB OCZ DDR2 800 (PC6400)
hds: 160MB + 120MB Maxtor PATA UDMA-133 (160 is the boot drive)
sds: 300GB Seagate SATA-150/300 (/boot and / are here)
320Gb WD SATA-150/300
vid: geFORCE7100gs (nVidia) PCI-E x16
lpr: Minolta QMS PagePro 1100 laser printer on /dev/lp0
mod: Agere Systems 56k...

Problem with booting/grub (?)

3) Is this the only way to recover from such an error (GRUB, no stage 2,
not the lp error), or was there an easier way I missed?

smartd stalls the system on reboot

yesterday, but I think this goes back farther than that.
Why does it take so long? Is the BIOS SMART involved in this (and how)?
Also, sendmail and sm-client take 30s-2m to come up as well (not always, but
usually).
Config:
CentOS 4.4 Plus (2.6.9-42.0.10 kernel)
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+
ECS NFORCE4M-A m/b
2GB OCZ DDR2 800 (PC6400) ram
160MB + 120MB Maxtor PATA drives (160 is the boot drive)

Flaky graphics - need help nailing down the cause
...lt terminal and nautilus windows show up, and then
they're not all there (as above).
DVI-VGA: same problem either way
2.6.18-92.1.10 - 92.1.13: likewise (makes no difference)
The video card is an nvidia ge7100gs and I have the beta driver from
rpmforge (under dkms). The base system is an ECS nFORCE4M-A with an
AMD Athlon 64x2 and 4GB of OCZ main memory. The newest parts are the
main memory (upgraded from 2GB about two months ago) and the monitor
(new in July). The m/b, COU and graphics card are all about 18 months
old. I recently upgraded to the new 92.1.13 kernel.
