No sound (ices-2.0.0, RH9)
* John McHarry (jmcharry@whqr.org) écrivait : > Have you tried aumix from the command line? I have used it in RH 9 and > Fedora, although not with ices. Yes, I did : in fact, aumix from the command line behaves exactly like the KMix GUI : when I change the PCM or Mic level with aumix, KMix shows the new settings. But even with aumix set to the good values (PCM to 100%), ices get no sound. where does linein writes to
...p). Looking at the source I saw that this programs, both of them, try to open /dev/dsp. Now, my question is if /dev/dsp is the standard device for the line-in of the audio card? I have tried, as suggested in previous mails, raising the sound level of line in and mic with amixer, alsamixer, aumix, kmix, gmix, etc. I still can`t get to stream audio from line-in but I got to stream noise to my Icecast Server! Any ideas?? Raul <p><p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a mess...

alsamixer and multiple audio cards
When I run kmix, there is a drop-down box in the upper right corner that lets me choose the audio device that kmix will be adjusting. If, however, I try to use alsamixer instead of kmix, there is only one (default) device that I can adjust. How can I tell to alsamixer that I want to adjust the volume of another ca...

Newbie problem with ices2
...tc. When I run ices (using "ices /home/rpm/Music/ices-alsa.xml" it starts OK then after a few seconds I get "EROR input-alsa/alsa_read snd_pcm_readi failed: Input/output error" and it dies (icecast stays up though). All I'm trying to do is to stream from line-in, I used kmix to set this (I think... red lights on for 'line' and 'capture' in the input tab). Has anyone any idea please what's going wrong? Thanks, -- Richard

No sound, no information why, where to start?
Wine and spotify used to work. Now it doesn't, and I don't know why. Main problem is that Wine doesn't give any information back regarding why audio fails, only that it fails. When using winecfg, opening the Audio tag, choosing Alsa Driver and pressing "Test sound", a pop up reports "Audio test failed!". Nothing more. Choosing OSS, switching to emulation, same

Skype on CentOS 5 - my microphone settings are incorrect
Note: The Wiki for Skype needs a tiny update. http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype It's not a Beta now. Last night, I downloaded and installed skype-2.0.0.63-centos.i586.rpm The Skype web site calls this a "Gold" release. I'm having the same problem I had when I tried to use the Skype Beta. It's not picking up audio from the microphone. The hardware works fine, when I'm

sound on debian
...Presently I have three windows based programs running with wine. FreeCell, IrfanView and CClient. The later is a Chess Client to play chess over the Internet. All three programs operate properly, but CClient needs a sound feedback when a piece is moved. Unfortunately there is no sound output. KMix is set to have all outputs and inputs at max level. I also installed alsaconf and had it go through the installation sequence. I am at a loss what else I could try. I have a second computer running Mandrake10.0, also with the same three programs running with wine. There, the sound works fine. Any...

The error is from the ALSA lib and isn't informative enough, it may just need a lib update or a di...

Microphone problems with Skype
Hi, I have CentOS4 and this soundcard: 00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60) I installed the Skype rpm for Fedora3 and it works but the quality of my voice is very poor: volume is low and the voice sound doesn't have the high frequencies. Did any of you made Skype work perfectly under CentOS4? How? Thanks, Adrian

recording sound: how 2 control recording level?
Hi gang! I'm trying to record (to .wav files) sound coming in on the line input of my sound card (in this case, output of a tape deck). For LISTENING purposes, I can control the level with the Gnome Mixer. However, the RECORDING level is not affected by the mixer. As a result, the recorded audio is badly clipped and horribly distorted. I don't understand enough about how this stuff
