SAMBA 4 acting as Domain Server- Is Exchange 2010 capable of being installed?
...ab environment authenticating Cisco UCM LDAP queries... I am attempting to install an Exchange 2010 deployment for integrated UM testing. As I attempted to extend the schema of the SAMBA 4 AD (setup /ps), the setup program came back and reported the following: "The Domain Controller 'smb4.homelab.int' is running the 4.0.0 version of the operating system. Minimal requested version is 5.2 (3790) Service Pack 1". Is it possible to install Exchange 2010 in a Samba4 Active Directory environment ? Is Exchange supported? Many Thanks,

Using ssd disks for kvm guests
Hi all, Recently I have acquired a supermicro e200-8d micro server to use it as my homelab. It is equipped with two ssd disks. My idea is to install several kvm guests on it, but I have some doubts about what type of filesystem (ext4 or xfs?) or block to use (lvm). Recommendations? Do I need to accomplish some type of running if I choose to use ext4 or xfs?? Thanks.

vfs fruit requires filesystem with extended attributes support?
...ot sure it is supported completely by Apple although they did have developer documentation on it at one time: https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/releasenotes/NetworkingInternetWeb/Time_Machine_SMB_Spec/ I did see this on reddit, but have not tried it personally: https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/83vkaz/howto_make_time_machine_backups_on_a_samba/ Have you tried using the modifications to your smb.conf ( or equivalent in your OS) recommended in this wiki? TM via AFP over TCP works well on a Linux server (ext4) so don?t know why your FFS wouldn?t work. https://wiki.samba.org/index....

Synology NAS is shutting down Ubuntu servers after very brief power outage (fwd)
Manuel, You are absolutely right.  I think this is all the Synology just being very dumb.  I guess those are my only two options at this point. I have no idea on how to set up the NUT server though on one of my NUCs or my Pi.  Do you know any good guides out there?  I’m guessing it’s easy enough to edit upsmon.conf on the Synology in order to get that to become a slave; I think would be all

NUT-Installer-2.6.5-6.msi on Hyper-V Server 2016
Hi, I'm trying to get NUT-Installer-2.6.5-6.msi working on my homelab Hyper-V Server 2016, so this is Hyper-V variant that is free ... without a desktop experience. I got it installed perfectly, but it seems to display any information from my APC UPS connected to my Synology NAS. etc\nut.conf MODE=netclient etc\upsmon.conf MONITOR ups at 192.168.1.10 1 upsmon secre...

NUT 2.7.4 is several years ago - new stable release?
....4) was several years ago. Is there a reason for the long hiatus? The reason I ask is that all of the distros seem to package that version. I'm hitting issues with NUT, and a Redditor suggested it was due to my old version - but I'm just using the distro version: https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/dun5ov/cannot_get_nut_to_work_with_eaton_9px_with/ I guess the distro haven't bothered updating, since there's no new tagged releases. Would it be hard to tag a new release? Thanks, Victor -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://...

Server disposal
Can anyone recommend a mailing list or other resource for finding a home for old server hardware? I've got a growing bone pile of retired Dell and Supermicro rack servers. I've stripped the drives and memory but hate to see the other old parts go to waste, like old RAID controllers and other proprietary parts.
