Hi Gang, I''m trying to figure a way to set an attachment to an email by allowing the user to browse for a file to send with the mail. It has id description list_table I have a controller that takes care of editing this table itself - but what I''m trying to achieve is to allow the user to edit the tables referenced in that master list. so what I''d like to do is get the value of list_table outa there (which I have) and plug it into a query that will show me a

Newbie Q: HOW TO: make a partial containing tabs
Hi Listers, I''m wondering about the possibility of creating a tabbed partial (or set of partials) dependant on a parent-children structure. For example; I have a parent JOB - job has many sons (Ooops wrong story). JOB contains CONTACTS, NOTES, STATISTICS, WORKFLOW, etc.. I want to show the general JOB data at the top of my screen, then below that load a set of tabs containing the

HOW DO I populate options from previous option click
Hi, I have a form with three drop down option lists. Currently each of these contain full listings as instantiated in the controller on entering the edit action. What I would like to do is filter the second list based on what the user selected on the first and the third filtered to reflect the second. For example I have major_role, role and person_in_role = role is a subset of major_role

Re: DB Modelling the Rails way - solution by Chris Hall
Hi Chris, Yesterday you kindly submitted an answer to my question on modelling many to many relationships. I''ve briefly tried the proposed solution but so far with no luck. Before I get too involved - I''d like to know if mapping three way :join_tables is "legal" in a Rails sense. I only ask since you put (untested) in your mail and I can''t find any docs on

Newbie Q: Controllers and lookup tables - when to initialise
Howdy Gang, in a major controller that has many methods using the same lookup tables for option choices and such, what is the life expectancy of the list instances. Is it useful to set these up in the controller initialize method - or is that utterly dumb? Cheers, Eric

Performance with many look-up tables
Hi, I have an app - a first cut ROR - so it''s a bit of a mess. I''m now trying to clean it up. The app relies on a heap of look-up tables that are, by and large, static. I''m wondering where and how to initialise these collections once - so that I don''t have to keep hitting the database every time I start a new action. Can I initialise the collections at the

A dumb question on extracting a value from a hash
Hi, I have the following code fragment; @comm_type = Communication.find_by_sql(''select id from communication_types where upper(description) = "EMAIL"'') Which results in >> @comm_type => [#<Communication:0x39a0f60 @attributes={"id"=>"4"}>] But when I try to test an ActiveREcord against this it doesn''t work;

DB Modelling the Rails way - Opinions??
Hi, I''m trying to figure the most efficient way to model the following. I can think of at least two ways to relate the tables but from a client/server perspective! I''m wondering how to best (and elegantly)relate them from an AR perspective. A project has many people, A person can work on many projects at any time, A project has many roles, A role is performed by a person, A
