SUGGESTION: rsyncing gziped source with non gziped destination
Would it be possible to make rsync capable to sync gziped source (at server) with non gziped detination file? PROBLEM: The rsyncd server provides a few *frequently* accessed, slow changing, *big* text files (DNS RBL zones). It seems that the source files are too big to stay in memory caches and rsync sessions cause to many hard disk I/O operations. Making rsynd capable to "ungzip"...

Manual partitioning and LVM
...whatever will let it boot. I want LVM on sda so that I can use snapshotting for backups. I can pre-format sdb1 and sdc1 as ext4 usinga gparted live DVD. If I select manual partitioning, I can then label and assign those two to /usr and /boot. I can see sda in the drives available on the first detination screen but but I don't see it in the manual partitioning screen. So I don't see how to partition and format it as an LVM volume that I can mount to /.

source addresses for IP traffic between jails
...m running into problems. When I use tcpdump to look at TCP traffic from one jail to another, it shows both the source and destination IP for the packets as being the IP assigned to the jail which the connection is made to. When I look at UDP traffic (again using tcpdump) I see both the source and detination IP being that of the jail IP the particular packet is destined for. Given the situation above, is it possible for ipfw to distinguish which jails are involved in a packet exchange? I've wondered about giving each jail its own pseudo-interface. Are there any problems with creating many p...
