Read Particular Cells within Excel
Hello all, I have a business user who generates monthly reports in MS Excel in a particular format. The data I need is present in different portions of this excel file. Is there a way to read different cells from a particular excel worksheet? i.e., cells b50:d100 in the Inputs worksheet. I am investigating odbcConnectExcel but did not yet see such capability. Appreciate your help. Jeevan [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Compare species presence and absence between sites
Dear List, I want to compare the presence and absence of bird species based on the sites in a matrix. The matrix has 5 rows for Island A, B, C, D, and E. It has 100 columns for bird species D001-D100. In each cell of the matrix, the presence-absence of bird species will be recorded as 1 or 0. (For example, if species D001 is found on Island D, the matrix cell of species D001 and Island D will be 1.) Now I want to know the different bird species between Island B and E. In other words, I...

G729 and voice mail
I am trying to figure out the best way to deal with this. I want all of the calls in the network to be G729 and this is working. I do have hardware that provides me 30 g729 licenses. I am setting each extensions to disallow=all and allow=g729. However when I have this setup, I get no voice mail prompts. I tried setting to disallow=all and allow=g729,alaw and I still have no audio when calling

compositional data: percent values sum up to 1
again, under another subject: sorry, maybe an all too trivial question. But we have power data from J frequency spectra and to have the same range for the data of all our subjects, we just transformed them into % values, pseudo-code: power[i,j]=power[i,j]/sum(power[i,1:J]) of course, now we have a perfect linear relationship in our x design-matrix, since all power-values for each subject sum up

Password policy under Samba 4?
How does one set a password policy using Samba 4? I've set up Samba 4 as a domain controller with one Windows 2003 server joined to the domain. I've seen mention of the "check password script" option, but I think that's not available in Samba 4, right? I've also seen mention of Group Policies, but I am not sure if this is correct or not because I haven't been able

ZFS Performance Issue
This may not be a ZFS issue, so please bear with me! I have 4 internal drives that I have striped/mirrored with ZFS and have an application server which is reading/writing to hundreds of thousands of files on it, thousands of files @ a time. If 1 client uses the app server, the transaction (reading/writing to ~80 files) takes about 200 ms. If I have about 80 clients attempting it @ once, it can

winbind on Solaris 2.5.1 not working.

Winbindd starts but fails to create the /tmp/.winbindd/pipe file and bombs like a daisycutter. But if I run winbindd like this " truss -aefo /tmp/file
