Setting ACLs
This is possibly the dumbest question I have asked ever, but how do you set ACLs on files within a ZFS filesystem? Trying to use setfacl(1) diverts me to the acl(5) manpage; well, I know that I need to use NFSv4 style ACLs, but where is the utility to do so? This is on Solaris 10 Update 2. Thanks, Ceri -- That must be wonderful! I don''t understand it at all.

[patch] LOCKED_PASSWD_STRING for FreeBSD
Hi, I dare to send you this very small patch that defines LOCKED_PASSWD_STRING for the FreeBSD operating system. The manpage had been unclear about this for a long time, up to 5.x days. Since 6.x, it has been made clearer, and thanks to Ceri Davies who highlighted this feature in OpenSSH, I made this patch. I hope this will reach OpenSSH source tree. This is not a big deal and I would add

debconf templating
Hello. Hope you can help me further. I can vaguely remember that once I saw a reference how to preconfigure debconf in puppet manifests. So you can define answers in debconf inside of manifests. No idea where anymore. Anybody knows? greetinx Christo

Puppet''s yum provider does not support versions?
Why doesn''t the yum provider support version, I tried added ensure -> ''ver'' and it barfs up (on clients) with: <snip> err: //stan.gbuild.org/any-host/java/Package[j2sdk]/ensure: change from 1.4.2_12-fcs to 1.4.2_13-fcs failed: Package provider yum does not support specifying versions at /etc/puppet/manifests/classes/ java.pp:13 </snip>

No nonodump...
I'm not sure where else to ask about this, so please excuse me if this is the wrong forum. In trying to remove a 'nodump' flag on a directory with the 'chflags' command I have noticed that the 'nonodump' flag does not function. I see an open PR for the problem: o [2003/01/09] i386/46912 johan chflags nonodump fails I was wondering when this might be dealt with? Else is

Performing actions in parallel
Hello, I have been running multiple exec scripts that could run in parallel. Does puppet run as much as possible in parallel? If it does not, is there a way to specify that actions may be run in parallel? Also, is puppet a multiple or single thread application? Thank you, -- Rob -- ____________________________________________________________________________________ Sucker-punch spam

A little exercise in R!
Greetings all! A recent news item got me thinking that a problem stated therein could provide a teasing little exercise in R programming. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-17680326 Cambridge University hosts first European 'maths Olympiad' for girls The first European girls-only "mathematical Olympiad" competition is being hosted by Cambridge

Ubuntu tutorial
I''ve submitted the following to howtoforge.com for approval. My plan is to create similar docs for OpenBSD, RHEL and installing from source. I''d certainly appreciate comments on how to improve the document, and feedback on errors. http://nixnotes.org/puppet.html Kent -- "It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can stop him from lynching me, and I

PLS regression?
Hi all, I would like to do some QSAR analysis (quantitative structure activity relationship). I need to use some Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression, but I have not seen this option on the R-project. Is it possible to do this kind of regression on R? thank you in advance best regards, olivier [[alternate HTML version deleted]]

Kerberos for authentication?
Greetings! Are there any plans of using Kerberos for authentication in addition to (or in place of) SSL certificates in Puppet? Kerberos provides mutual, cryptographically strong authentication. A number of different services are Kerberos-enabled (SSH, NFSv4 and HTTP are common examples), and thus use the same authentication mechanism system-wide. At our site, almost all services and users are

What I''m doing with Puppet
Hi all, Just reading through Luke''s interview on computerworld.com.au and I came across this statement: "This topic comes up on the list periodically, however, and most people are very tight-lipped about what they''re doing with Puppet." Being the chattermouth that I am, I''d like to take this opportunity to tell you all what we''re (that is, my

Xen, NFS performance, rsize, wsize and MTU
We have a Xen 3.0 / Linux kernel 2.6.15 machine with the domU''s configured for shared /home directories. One of the domU''s is an NFS server, exporting /home, and the other domU''s all mount this. It all functions fine, but it''s pretty slow. I tried untarring a recent Linux kernel tarball. On the NFS server domU this takes about 25 seconds. I didn''t

After you compile and install it (./configure --enable-smbwrapper ; make ; make install does it) you simply run it - it'll give you a login/pw and your usual shell prompt. You then can
