We currently have a Brother MFC-5490CN. Printer firmware is dated June 1010. (yeah, 10 years old). Few years ago the brother software wouldn't work for printing under Fedora. No problem, can print under Windows 10. Then it stopped scanning. Could still print...under Windows. Now, to fix the scanning features working I installed updated drivers under Windows, now it scans like champ, but

I've got a Brother HL-L2360D series printer connected to Centos 7. CUPS lists it as Generic PCL6/PCL Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.9 . When I tell it to print a pdf file, it prints at most the first page. After powering the thing off and turning it on again, it printed page 3 of pages 3-6 . On trying it again, the thing claimed it was receiving data and printed page 3 of pages 3-6 again.

How would I use Big Brother with Shorewall and my loc and dmz zones to monitor hosts in both zones? If Big Brother''s server is on my LAN (loc) is it "safe" to forward the bb port from the dmz to the LAN? What would the security risks of this be? Our office has had a Brother MFC-8510DN for at least five years - no issues. As has been said below, you do have to download and install the driver but the process hasn't been problematic. Given a job, the printer state shows, "Sending data to printer"; the file is in the spool dir; the job queue is empty, and nothing more happens. I've used Brothers printer driver installer tool to install drivers on C7 for a DCP7650DN. Cups thinks printing is working fine, but nothing ever arrives at the printer: the printer remains asleep. Looking at some of the setup instructions for the brother driver, it looks as if it wants a symbolic link of /etc/init....
