regarding ssl certificates
...with unknown participants cannot be a "Certificate Authority" in its true sense. This is why you should see "Let's Encrypt" simply as a cheap way to fake security. It is a US entity, which means it _must_ hand out all necessary keys to fake certificates to the US authorities _by law_. Now probably you can imagine why they are giving the certificates out for free. US authorities can compromise all of them - without any "open knowledge". It would be dead easy to prevent this fake for the guys at mozilla or google (for the web), but they don't. All that is neede...

Precisions to bug 26128
Dear all, First thanks for the good job! Samba allowed me to switch from M$ slavery to Freedom of Free Softwares I like so much :-)) Here is a precision on the bug number 26128 I've posted by 9th of December 2002. The EXCEL 97 file has become corrupted _by Samba_.. I don't understand how this could happen but it seems samba logger just logged in the Excel file directly. Here is what I can see in the Excel file, editing it with vim, in the middle of Microsoft crappy file: (Sorry, I still have to anonymyse the file since it contains confidential b...

IdentityFile option escape sequences
...&apropos=0&manpath=OpenBSD+Current>. It seems the escape sequences do not work. I have tried both using the command like option and an ssh-config file and the results are the same - it seems the escape sequences do not get expanded. The example below shows that the option is _seen _by ssh, but the esacpe sequences are not expanded. sftp -v -oPasswordAuthentication=no -oIdentityFile=/var/opt/oss/data/config/ssh/%h_%r_id_dsa temip at bt1sss5t Connecting to bt1sss5t... Request EXTLINUX support 64bit features in ext4
...o to support such characteristics. Without supporting this feature, EXTLINUX fails to boot (or rather it fails to be installed correctly) in ext4 when the fs includes such "64bit" characteristic(s). Back then, the request was mainly relevant for certain distros that were already using _by default_ the "64bit" feature when formatting with ext4, for whichever volume size (even for "small" ones). With the release of version 1.43 of e2fsprogs (2016May), the "64bit" feature is enabled by default (quote from the release notes): "Mke2fs will now creat...

Certificate authorities, including Let's Encrypt, operate on Certificate Signing Requests, not Private Keys. Some CAs do offer private key generation in their services for the user's convenience, but it is not recommended (obviously) and in no way required. Getting a CA to sign...

ALERT: Tiresome security hole in "xosview", RedHat5.1?
...The author clearly knew what he/she was doing: char className[256]; strncpy(className, name, 255); // Avoid evil people out there... Appears later. I found this amusing. Anyway I hope it''s apparent this is exploitable. xosview doesn''t appear to drop privs. Also, that is _by no means the only vulnerable section of code_, just the stupidest bit. Temp. (and probably permanent) solution: "chmod u-s `which xosview`. Anyway well done RedHat for "blunder of the week". Still fuming, Chris PS. Whilst you''re at it RedHat, fix the X libraries (new sec...

Dear Alex; Thanks for your kindly reply. Please explain for me what do u mean exactly in "a la" in the following sentence u wrote it below? " in SIP, this can be done via "re-INVITEs" a la the canreinvite= option for SIP peers in sip.conf" Another thing, do u mean that it is easier (better) if we need H.323 endpoint to talk with SIP endpoint then we use full

R, VR, and Debian
Hi Folks, A while ago (September 2007) I set up an experimental Debian 4.0 Etch installation, and installed R on it, along with several packages -- including e1071 and the "Bundle" VR -- by means of the Debian package manager. Most of the time, R works fine. But not always. Just now, I wanted to try the code suggested by Johannes H?sing for "Stroparia"'s Multiset

Hi.. I need some support... table: week_id, user_id, project_id, hours ex. => 33, 2, 1, 10 34, 2,1,15 33, 2, 2, 20 35, 3, 1,20 etc. Want to display a sum of hours per week_id per user_id I have: @hours = HourUser.includes(:user).group_by { |h| h.week_id } @hours.keys.sort.each do |hour| @hours[hour].collect(&:stunden).sum Hours are summed up, but not sorted by user_id.. How to get that? Thanks Werner -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. To...
