As said previously don't do this too often. I'd guess if your cached copy is older than e.g. 60min and the user does something that requires the list, it should be safe to download a fresh copy. --------------- GENERAL WARNING (nothing personal): As said before I'd like to avoid situations where we get some popular software where each client will download the list every 5 minutes. ...iour, I'd actually throw some money at making it happen. (And a further option to retain a copy if inode permissions/ownership would otherwise be changed.) Reasoning: I backup many servers with --link-dest that have filesystems of 10+M files on them. Instead, I cycle them in with mv $olddate $today then rsync --del --link-dest over them - takes 30-60 min depending. (Yes, some malleability of permissions...

windos 10 <-> samba file server -> problems
...eople are using the shares without any problem. This server is running automatically some mysql queries. The results of the queries are written to a file on the share. 1 or 2 times (from 10) this will fail. We only get an error like "file not found". The mysql query is running long (up to 60min). This problem occurred when the machine was updated from WIN7 to WIN10. Any idea what is the reason for this kind of error ? Can we change some settings on the WIN10 machine to get the stability of the windows 7 back ? As a temporary solution the file is written to a local disk and then copied...

Big matrix memory problem
Hi All, I want to read 256 1000x1000 matrices into R. I understand that it is unlikely that I can do this but In the hope that somebody can help me I am mailing this list. I have tried increasing my memory size (I understand that it is the minimum of 1024 or the computers RAM in my case 512) Does anyone think this is possible in R, could it be tried in Splus for example. Fitting a multinomial model to a multi-way factorial design with repeated measures: help on package and syntax
...vels (hence a total of 24 subjects) Data collection using repeated measures. I observed each subject during a 130 min trial but I collected data only during 3 periods (10 min long separated each other by 50min) --> Factor period (Per): 3 levels, from 0min to 10min (after trial start), from 60min to 70min, and from 120 to 130min. Within each period, I recorded subject's positions 21 times (every 30sec). I consider these observations as independent because 30 sec is large enough so that fish go back-and forth several time in the tank. --> Postition (Pos) was a categorical variable...
