Nested if help
...a nested if of sorts to find data
for a specific time range for a specific day (across a range of days) and
have exhausted my abilities with the manuals I have at hand. I have a good
deal of data of this approximate form:
day time price
1 1am 5
1 2am 7
1 3am 9
1 4am 12
2 1am 5
2 2am 7
2 3am 9
2 4am 12
etc
I am reading from a file I loaded and using a while statement. I then am
trying the direct approach of writing the if:
if(time>=2am &time <=4am) { #specifying desired time range--since a while

Tracking down whats causing a high load?
Hiya,
Currently running Centos 4.2 x86_64 dist on a dual 3G xeon, 2G ram,
scsi setupand everythings been running fine on it for some time. Then at 4am
last night something kicked in (have mrtg running monitoring when) and since
then its been running a load of about 1.5 (normally around 0.4). CPU usage
is Cpu(s): 1.1% us, 0.6% sy, 0.0% ni, 97.9% id, 0.2% wa, 0.1% hi, 0.1%si.
Can't see any new processes that would cause the load, just wo...

Xen network problem
I have a machine with 8 CPU's (2 quad xeons). (Centos 5.4 currently).
Currently, I am running 2 domUs. One with 4 CPUs and another with 2. 2
remain unused. I am using routed networking.
On the one machine with 4 CPU's, there is a cronjob at 4am which
utilizes the CPU/disk pretty heavily. It is rebuilds a mailing list
archive (using MHonarc) and rebuilds a search engine index (swish-e). I
dont think it uses more than 1 CPU though because the index rebuilding
is not multi threaded, as far as I know.
This cron runs at 4am each day and t...

lots of disk activity keep process from responding
hi all
I have something like 3000 log files in a directory (from data collection).
At 4am in the morning cron runs a script of mine that essentiallly trims
all files in that directory back to a certain size.
Basically does a "tail -c XXXX filename > tmp_filename"
I have noticed that only around the 4am-4:15 time frame when the trim is
happening does my
other process log...

cronie: /usr/bin/run-parts
...in the /etc/cron.[daily|weekly|hourly] directories?
Specifically with CentOS 6.* I've noticed that scripts in /etc/cron.daily
and /etc/cron.weekly run at different times of the day, or on different
days. In my experience on other rpm-based distributions, cron daily and
weekly scripts run at 4am; those that are run weekly run at 4am on Sunday
morning.

Silly logrotate question
...and either I am not asking the right way or I just
can't see what's in front of me (sorry)...
We have log files called app.2011-10-119.log (with the date changing every
day). The log is created by the application each day at midnight.
I have logrotate set to rotate files ending in .log at 4am, with
copytruncate on by default.
If I list the files I see all the old app.2011-10-<X>.log files with a 0
file size.
If I turn off copytruncate, the current days log file will be removed
everyday at 4am.
How can I satisfy both the need to remove yesterday's log file while keeping
the cu...

I've done it this way (as far as I remember) 5-6 times- in addition
to sending these directions to several folks who reported back
success. Not sure what's different here.

Dovecot and Letsencrypt certs
So this morning at 4am I was awoken to my mail clients getting certificate errors for an expired certificate.
I hopped on to the server and checked and? no, the LE certs renewed last month and are valid until November.
After some moments of confusion I noticed that dovecot had been running since before the renewal, so...

bayesian HLM random effects
Hello, all.
I've been working on this for sometime and was almost at the end/ last chunk of code i would need.... When I received an error. Rather than go to bed and think about it in the morning, I messed with my data and now I am not getting anything. I was up until 4am trying to fix this.
Zip files of my data are attached (the data which ends in 'a' matches with wvsA and the data which ends in 'b' matches with my data code wvsB). my code is below.
I can't even get plots, now. If i can just get to that point, i would be eternally gratefu...

OSX as file server in AD domain
Hi all
I just installed an OSX server that I joined to an existing Active Directory
Domain. It works for the Mac side of OSX, but windows clients can't connect.
>From wath I understand, it is now time to setup samba to authenticate users
of the AD domain. How can I tell samba to use AD for authentification? If
you can point me to an How-to on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Permanent stream
...the stream and stops. So I'm presently
starting it up in a shell script as an infinite loop (while true, ogg123 ...)
and putting it in the background NOHUP. Works fine, but I was wondering if
anyone had a better way to do this.
Also, would it be a good idea to restart the stream every, say, 4am, to deal
with time-sync differences between the sound cards?
Thanks.

rsync takes long pauses in xfer ?
...4539250
You can see a couple of spots in the graph where it just drops to
nothing ( checking more closely you do see a very small bit of
activity )
Here is another graph from MRTG which records the traffic from the
switch port side. You can see around 2am it drops off pretty low,
then from about 4am til about 7am it drops even lower.

R 2.5.1 scheduled for October 3
..."R 2.5.1 Patched" will be closed to further development at GFF (as all
the release branches, it can be reopened if the need arises, we just
don't anticipate such a need.)
The source alpha/beta/RC tarballs will be made available daily
(barring build troubles) by a cron job running at 4AM CET, and the
tarballs can be picked up at
http://cran.r-project.org/src/base-prerelease/
a little later.
The various freeze points are marked by changes to the VERSION file
this is also done automatically by a cron job which runs just after
midnight on the relevant days.
