[Bridge] Linux bridging code bounces back frames?
Hi, I'm trying to build a bridge using a 486DX2/66 with two 10 Mbit Ethernet NICs. The machine (tsushima) is running Debian stable and kernel 2.4.26. Previously I used it as a router, so I know the hardware (NICs) is working. The NICs are as follows: eth0: WD80x3 at 0x280, 00 00 C0 0A 2C 2F WD8003-old, IRQ 10, shared memory at 0xd0000-0xd1fff. e...

TCP_NODELAY at the cafe.
...red / messed about by customers downloading software. mandatory profiles are really useful for this, because we only use one account for all the users, at the moment. the one complaint that we had was the speed of loading applications. netscape gold took _two minutes_ to load from the server (a 486dx2 66, with 8mb ram). so, i figured, why not try socket options = TCP_NODELAY. and it now takes twenty seconds to load netscape! most excellent. anyway, i just wanted to say thank you to the samba developers for a great product. regards, luke

configure bombing with "no locking available"
..., because I run samba 2.0.3(precompiled) on it now. On the RedHat, everything compiled fine. The only thing I can think of is that it requires a special program/devel/include that I haven't installed (limited harddrive). configure output available at request (slightly large). SAMBA digest 1565 - Netlogon problems
...1.9.18. I think it was a bug in nmbd whereby it would lose registering itself as the domain controller (certainly, looking at the browse lists with smbclient showed this to be the case). The odd part was that it seemed to be crashed by the clients. A little (occasional use) server we have, a 486DX2/50, worked fine with a 486DX4/120 client machine. However, when we powered up a P166, the domain logons stopped working (for all clients). In short, upgrade to 1.9.18p1 and it should go away. (Well, it did for me. ;-) - Bob ---------------------------------------------------------------...

failed to set socket options
...ully, but there was no mention of port 139, which the Samba documentation I have read indicates that this port is used by Samba. Any suggestions on how we can get the "socket options" and "??? timeout" to work would be greatly appreciated. The network adapter is an NE2000 in a 486DX2-66 with 16MB RAM. We are having a similar problem with an NE2000 in a PPro system. -- Hank Burton ===================================================================== Literati Information Technology, LLC wburton@literati.com PO Box 638 http://www.literati.c...

priority bands don't reduce interactive latency?
I run a small Linux webserver and NAT router from my cable modem at home. Whenever someone starts an http download, all other traffic from my LAN is starved. Bandwidth is not really an issue, but latency is particularly horrible -- pings that usually come back in 20ms can take up to 600ms while the web server is active! I set up QoS (netfilter+iproute2) on the NAT machine in an attempt to give

slow sparc questions
I've got a couple of SPARCstation 2s (about as fast as a fast 486, for most thing) that I'm going to be using for some testing. I realize that these machines are a bit slow, but when connecting via OpenSSH, it's MUCH slower than connecting to my 486-DX 50. The point where it waits is just after "debug: Sent encrypted session key.". The pause is for about 10 seconds, while

Absolute Minimum Installation Packages
I'm trying to get the total Linux/* installation size as small as possible. I'm wondering if anyone has looked at the installed packages list from the Redhat installation [rpm -qa] and has parsed out all packages not needed for * to run. I follow the custom install guide from Andy Powell but the installation yields 948+ Meg with 340 installed packages. I'm sure most of those packages

The Smallest Asterisk Server Ever?
Hello all, Saturday night, after a couple of shots of bourbon, I realized that I had an old PC sitting in the garage that I could use as an Asterisk gateway if I just blew the dust off it and reloaded it with a modern Linux distribution. In my characteristically impulsive manner, I grabbed it and started cleaning it up so that I could put it in my office without my wife having a fit. The

New snapshot
I have just uploaded a new snapshot to: http://www.mindrot.org/misc/openssh/openssh-SNAP-20001114.tar.gz This snapshot includes Markus Friedl's new SSH2 RSA authentication work and -R portforwarding for SSH2. Please give these a good test. The new RSA authentications works similar to the current SSH2 DSA keys, but requires a little modification to config files. Currently RSA key cannot be
