Problem rsyncing 450GB file to my NAS: 'connection unexpectedly closed'
Hi list! I'm trying to use rsync to do a regular remote backup of a 450GB sized container file located on my squeeze server onto a colocated QNap NAS device. Both use rsync 3.0.7. While this setup works for most files, it fails on this large file (see log below). I'm already trying to help rsync using "-P" to indicate that rsync should reuse the curre...

IVR Menu and VoiceMail quality
...9;s frusterating is that I can get crystal clear menus sometimes even when my network is fully loaded and other times when it's perfectly quiet it sounds absolutely horrible... Here are the machine's specs if that helps: AMD Athlon 1Ghz (Old Thunderbird core) Asus A7V600 128MB DDR-266 RAM 450GB storage (4 IDE drives in an LVM array) *grin* Pure VoIP, no digium hardware Internet connection is cable with 3Mbit downlink and 256Kbit uplink... As I said earlier I wouldn't have even asked, but it dosen't seem to be totally bandwidth related so I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas...

Best setup for performance and fault tolerance
...users that have mailboxes on the server ranging from 1KB to 20GB in size. Total mail store is currently at 300GB. About 75 of the users are currently POP access and their mail will be moved to the server soon and setup as IMAP. This is calculated to add roughly another 150GB of mail for a total of 450GB mail store. Being a state agency we have to keep the mail indefinitely for public record reasons. We use a mixture of Thunderbird as an IMAP client and SOGo for web access. Now to the problem: Recently we have been having super slow access to the mail server. Turns out the load was insanely high p...

Trying to install R on Lucid Lynx
...hell hangs after entering. I installed Ubuntu from a bootable CD-ROM this morning, using http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/dual-boot-windows-7-ubuntu.html as a guide, particularly for setting up the file system. Because I have a Dell, three primary partitions were already taken up. I took about 450Gb off my hard drive for Ubuntu and created the fourth partition for it as shown in the link above. I don't know if it has any bearing on the present problem, but in case it does... I've gotten the same response in the shell after each of four attempts, including two where I only asked to in...

hvm phy-disc doesnt boot (file-disc does) (debian dom0, SLES domU)
...crash = ''preserve'' ------------------ As you can see, i tried to use the complete /dev/sdc as hda for the virtual machine. The install was successfully (The machine bootet from the dvd-image, the hd was detected correctly). During the SLES setup i created to partitions (/ (450GB) and swap(30GB)) and installed grub in the MBR as well as in /. Unfortunatelly, after the first Boot the Systems hangs at grub after loading the HVMAssist Bios with the following message: ---------------- ata0-0: PCHS=16383/16/63 translation=lba LCHS=1024/255/63 ata0 master: QEMU HARDDISK ATA-...

Slightly OT: which hardware for CentOS file server (Samba, 2 To storage, 50 users)?
Hi, The language lab from the local university has contacted me. They'd like to have a low-cost file server for storing all their language video files. They have a mix of Windows, Mac OS X and even Linux clients, roughly 50 machines. The files are quite big, and they calculated a total amount of 2 To of storage. I'm not very proficient with hardware, meaning either I'm dealing

zfs destroy hangs machine if snapshot exists- workaround found
Hi, I was suffering for weeks from the following problem: a zfs dataset contained an automatic snapshot (monthly) that used 2.8 TB of data. The dataset was deprecated, so I chose to destroy it after I had deleted some files; eventually it was completely blank besides the snapshot that still locked 2.8 TB on the pool. ''zfs destroy -r pool/dataset'' hung the machine within seconds

HELP! SNV_97,98,99 zfs with iscsitadm and VMWare!
I''m not sure if this is a problem with the iscsitarget or zfs. I''d greatly appreciate it if it gets moved to the proper list. Well I''m just about out of ideas on what might be wrong.. Quick history: I installed OS 2008.05 when it was SNV_86 to try out ZFS with VMWare. Found out that multilun''s were being treated as multipaths so waited till SNV_94 came out to
