MDS read-only
...FS-fs error (device cciss!c0d1): ldiskfs_ext_check_inode: bad header/extent in inode #50736178: invalid magic - magic 0, entries 0, max 0(0), depth 0(0) Oct 8 20:16:44 mainmds kernel: Aborting journal on device cciss!c0d1-8. And make the MDS read-only. This problem has made about 1PB data, 0.1 billion files unavailable to access. We believe there is some structure wrong in the local file system of MDT, so we have tried to use e2fsck to fix it follow the process in lustre manual. However, with the loop always goes like this: 1. run e2fsck, fixed or not fixed some er...

Upgrading from 3.6.3 to 3.10/3.11
Hi all We have a 20-node, 1pb Gluster deployment that is running 3.6.3 - the same version we installed on day 1. There are obviously numerous performance and feature improvements that we'd like to take advantage of. However, this is a production system and we don't have a replica of it that we can test the upgrade on....

lilesystem size limit samba on 64bit 2.6 kernel vs. clients win2k/winxp ?
I had an incredibly hard time finding any documentation on filesystem size limits for samba on 64bit linux with 2.6 kernel exporting to 32bit windows 2003 and windows-xp by googling. The closest I could get to was that cifs filesystem size correlates to ntfs filesystem size and therefore there would be a 64TB limit. Are there additional limits within the software stack that I should be aware of?

single brick logging errors endlessly
Hey gluster experts, We have a 20 physical server, replicate level 2, 40 brick cluster, the first brick is showing errors such as attached paste. It's around a 1PB system which is nearly full. https://paste.ee/p/Dqdde This seems to be a file too long error, as the link is going ../folder/../folder/../folder/../folder/ around 30+ times. Any suggestions as to why this has occurred and what we can do to prevent it from happening? It seems to be different fold...

statvfs change
An issue was found with the netBeans installer where the installation was failing on a large ZFS filesystem. This resulted in CR 6560644 (zfs statvfs f_frsize needs work). The issue is that large filesystems can cause EOVERFLOW on statvfs() calls. This behavior is documented in the statvfs(2) man page, but I think we can do better. The problem was initially reported against ZFS, and my first fix

Can anyone talk infrastructure with me?
Hi All, I started a 501c3 (not-for-profit) organization back in February 2011 to deal with information archival. A long vision here, I wont bore you with the details (if you really want to know, e-mail me privately) but the gist is I need to build an infrastructure to accommodate about 2PB of data that is database stuff, stored video, crawl data, static data sets, etc. Right now in my testing of
