Samba on Two networks
I'm trying to set up a 100Base-T network on top of my exisiting 10Base-T network. The 100Base-T network is between a few hosts, but those hosts are also on the 10Base-T network. Here's a little diagram: 10Base-T 100Base-T ------------------------------------------------------- 128.173.1.1...

network extremely slow
samba2.07,nt4sp6a I run a samba-server with 15nt-clients on a 100MBit-Switch. Now I faced extremely poor performance and really have no idea why. I even dont know if it can be a samba-problem. When copying myriads of small file from a client to the server or vice versa I get bad performance: 1000 files a 16kb: ~80seconds = 200kb/second But this is highspeed compared to copying from nt to nt:

samba speeds
Well I tried #freebsdhelp and got confirmation that this is just not happening to me but we couldn't figure it out there either... with: FreeBSD 4.5 Samba 2.2.2 | 100Base T Crossover link | Window XP Pro Upload win to unix speeds are around ~400k/sec Download unix to win speeds are around ~5000k/sec checked for net collisons (there are none) anyone find a fix for this? Thanks, Tsdiorus

copying files samba - win95: drops dead in the middle
When copying files from the Samba server to a Windows95 client or vv, the speed varies dramatically. When I try to copy the same (20MB) file 10 times some times it copies in less than 10 seconds. The next time it takes allmost a minute. And most worrying of all quite often the copying just stops halfway in the middle. The progress bar in Windows just stops. The traffic on the NIC also stops (the

CentOS 7 : network interface renamed from eth0 to eth1 after reboot
Hi, I've done my fair share of CentOS 7 installations, but this is the first time I have this kind of weird problem. Here goes. In my office I have a battered Dell Optiplex 320 PC with two NICs that I'm using as a bare metal sandbox server for testing purposes. The CentOS 7 installer sees the connected network card as eth0. But after the first reboot, the interface comes up as eth1.

Performance Problems
I've been introducing a local company to the benefits of Linux and Samba, things have been going really well until I tried to provide some file sharing for 3 people on the Lan. Setup: RH 5.0 on a P5-133 running a small intranet with DHCP, file server, and local / remote mail services Samba 1.9.18 (not sure of patch level) I setup a directory accessible by only 3 users and copied a 2.4Meg

Lets wait till the top programmers come up with a central I don't know why there's lots of problems lately. I assume some small libc implementation changed that icecast must have depended on. Sudden performance problem
In preparation for upgrading my LAN 10 100base/T, I replaced the NE2000 card in my Linux box with a Realtek 10/100 PCI card. It wasn't my first choice, but there was a problem with the other card so I fell back to what I had on hand. It seems to work fine with everything but Samba. Suddenly the performance of that part of the server is a...

Performance Benchmarks. Not good.
...s wins server = 10.1.1.4 wins proxy = yes dns proxy = no The rest of the shares are public and readable by everyone (mapped to the linux fs as pcguest) Surely there's something wrong. The linux benchmarks were very similar using version 2.2.1a and 2.2.2 Signed, Steven Haigh Out the 100Base-T, off the firewall, through the router, down the T1, over the leased line, off the bridge, nothing but Net. Its perfomance has been very poor since i changed the server. PLEASE HELP ME, since its in production and i really don know what to do. thanks, sebastian davancens

...0.00, 0.00, 0.00 As you can see, not too up to date, but also very lightly loaded (!) A status update: as you will have seen from my earlier post, I broke down and got the CVS version of icecast. Having compiled this up I get a good stream at home (cable modem) and a seemingly good stream over 100Base-T local to the machine at work (although winamp still flashes its little red light at me - odd!) I'd appreciate any reports if anyone would care to tune in - http://www.59tv.com:8000 I've spent the rest of the day fighting with icedj, and finally gave up. Either it needs a custom ve...

Samba or Win2K Server as Domain Controller?
We are looking at implementing a Windows Domain structure very soon and I have been asked to evaluate/investigate the differences between using Samba as a DC vs a true Win2k DC. We run TCP/IP and Appletalk on a 100Base-T network. I'm the main Microsoft person in the group and have a lot of Windows experience (9x - XP). We currently have a primary NT 4 domain controller mainly acting as a print and software install server. 99% of workstations are in workgroup mode. We have a contingent of Mac users (OS...

Xen Kernel (3.0.2) breaks b44 module
I have a new laptop (Dell 9400) that I am trying to work with Xen 3.0. Xen works fine, runs windows XP under HVM. But, the Xen kernel on Dom0 has a few problems with some of the hardware. The network card is a Broadcom 4400 10/100BaseT. Normally loading the b44 module gives this: Apr 28 20:07:53 ipanema kernel: [4294683.185000] b44.c:v0.97 (Nov 30, 2005) Apr 28 20:07:53 ipanema kernel: [4294683.185000] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:03:00.0[A] -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 177 Apr 28 20:07:53 ipanema kernel: [4294683.189000] e...

...crossover cables into each PC's eth1, eth2 & eth3 On both PC's run tcpdump -i br0 from the console . In my case, I saw traffic right away. Do some test pings from and to your devices, and try to get an IP address (dhcp) from the "remote" LAN. Troubleshooting: *Link up at 100base-T FD? *ifconfig eth1, eth2, eth3 shows as SLAVE? *same ifconfig shows TX and RX values > 0 *try mii-tool -F 100baseT-FD 11. Rack up and plug in the PC's in the source and destination LAN's. Terminate the Cat 3 with the RJ-11 or 12 plugs on both LAN's. The pinout is undocumented in t...
