There _are_ ways of doing it but I would rather you not do it that way cause
of permission problems. eg : user1 would be able to access/write into user2
directory!!
The thing here is that AFAIUnderstand, samba needs the username/passwd combo
to determine write/read access. If you were to just ignore the
username/passwd combo and enable public=yes then when a user browse into
that share folder, it will be under the user nobody or guest which has _no_
priviledges. Hence you _Still_ will not be able to write to it.
Then you can also put the statment readonly=false (or something along those
lines, I can't remember the exact name) but that will also not make it
writeable because of your *nix permissions. Most home directories will be
drwx------. YOu're using solaris, you should know more about this than me,
the linux newbie.
But, as they say, I can only get my newbie status lifted if I help enough
people.
Cheers, .^.

Subject: [Samba] Re: Connecting without smbpasswd file
That still gives me the "Incorrect password or Unknown username" error
message. The only way I'm able to connect is to remove the public = false
from the [homes] section, but then I don't have any write access into the
unix home directories.
