I'm running Samba on a Linux 7.2 recently upgraded to 8.0 system. I have a problem that occurred in 7.2 and also occurs in 8.0. My clients are Windows 98. If a client reboots then regularly it is not possible to access files on the Linux server without restarting smb on the server. On the Windows 98 clients, in network neighbourhood I get \\Robert is not accessible. No permission to access resource. /etc/init.d/smb restart fixes it. Samba is version 2.2.5-10 A tcpdump of a failure from the Linux server gives: [root@robert root]# more smbbad.txt 22:11:43.940915 192.168.1.2.1027 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: P 622:751(129) ack 351 win 7449NB T Packet (DF) 22:11:43.943519 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn > 192.168.1.2.1027: P 351:390(39) ack 751 win 5840NBT Packet (DF) 22:11:43.944669 192.168.1.2.1027 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: P 751:880(129) ack 390 win 7410NB T Packet (DF) 22:11:43.947244 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn > 192.168.1.2.1027: P 390:429(39) ack 880 win 5840NBT Packet (DF) 22:11:44.141790 192.168.1.2.1027 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: . ack 429 win 7371 (DF) And a good one: [root@robert root]# more smbgood.txt [root@robert root]# tcpdump: listening on eth1 22:13:07.576710 192.168.1.2.1032 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: S 243664:243664(0) win 8192 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> (DF) 22:13:07.576978 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn > 192.168.1.2.1032: S 858133472:858133472(0) ack 2436 65 win 5840 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> (DF) 22:13:07.577091 192.168.1.2.1032 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: . ack 1 win 8760 (DF) 22:13:07.577109 192.168.1.2.1032 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: P 1:73(72) ack 1 win 8760NBT Pack et (DF) 22:13:07.577278 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn > 192.168.1.2.1032: . ack 73 win 5840 (DF) 22:13:07.589575 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn > 192.168.1.2.1032: P 1:5(4) ack 73 win 5840NBT Packe t (DF) 22:13:07.589733 192.168.1.2.1032 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: P 73:231(158) ack 5 win 8756NBT P acket (DF) 22:13:07.591703 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn > 192.168.1.2.1032: P 5:95(90) ack 231 win 5840NBT Pa cket (DF) 22:13:07.592113 192.168.1.2.1032 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: P 231:390(159) ack 95 win 8666NBT Packet (DF) 22:13:07.600287 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn > 192.168.1.2.1032: P 95:134(39) ack 390 win 5840NBT Packet (DF) 22:13:07.601336 192.168.1.2.1032 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: P 390:549(159) ack 134 win 8627NB T Packet (DF) 22:13:07.604263 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn > 192.168.1.2.1032: P 134:173(39) ack 549 win 5840NBT Packet (DF) 22:13:07.615761 192.168.1.2.1032 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: P 549:708(159) ack 173 win 8588NB T Packet (DF) 22:13:07.576710 192.168.1.2.1032 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: S 243664:243664(0) win 8192 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> (DF) 22:13:07.576978 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn > 192.168.1.2.1032: S 858133472:858133472(0) ack 2436 65 win 5840 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> (DF) 22:13:07.577091 192.168.1.2.1032 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: . ack 1 win 8760 (DF) 22:13:07.577109 192.168.1.2.1032 > 192.168.1.5.netbios-ssn: P 1:73(72) ack 1 win 8760NBT Pack et (DF)
