Are you using smbfs (smbmount) or smbclient? smbfs at least does not yet support large files. /Urban

thank you very much Urban, I download samba-2.0.7-20000425.src.rpm and with this package your patch is OK, samba-2.0.7.tar.gz(samba.lates.tar.gz) on the samba.org website is update and configure script is different from origin samba-2.0.7:(( jirka> > On Mon, 19 Feb 2001, Hlavat? Does Samba have a problem with files over 4GB in size? We are seeing files loop, as they are written past the 4GB limit. Perhaps there's an option I haven't been able to find and set. --- Andrew C. I'm sorry, I should have been more specific on the Samba version. This was tested with the tip of SAMBA_2_2 from Friday. I will repeat the tests myself to make sure. I'm reporting other people's results, which is why I'm not being exact. I just compiled the tip, so I'll try that. -----Original Message----- From: jra@samba.org [mailto:jra@samba.org] Sent: Tuesday, December 18, 2001 10:44 AM To: Esh, Andrew Cc: 'jra@samba.org'; 'samba@samba.org' Subject: Re: Large File Support On Tue, Dec 18, 2001 at 10:39:26AM -0600, Esh, Andrew wrote:> Samba 2.2.2, Redhat Linux i386, and I've attached the source code of a > simple file writing program. Known bug I fixed in the SAMBA_2_2 CVS tree. Should be fixed in 2.2.3, but you can CVS checkout now and test to make sure (that would help thanks). Hi All, To allow the support of file larger then 2 gigs the following patches were applied the system mentioned below. CPU: Pentium Pro Memory: 64 Megs Kernel version: tried with 2.4.18 and 2.4.20, same errors Distribution Debian Woody (aka 3.0) Samba version: 2.2.3a-12 Smbfs patch version: 2.4.18 had patches applied from here : http://www.hojdpunkten.ac.se/054/samba/index.html 2.4.20 had patches (modified from above) from here: http://www.ps.uni-sb.de/~errror/smbfs-lfs.html When coping files even files smaller then 2 gigs in size I get the following error message. cp: cannot stat `/dosworld/pent14/c/Program Files/Trend PC-cillin 6.0/WHATSNEW.TXT': Too many open files in system Tar of a SMB mounted directory also yield the following error message sometimes. smb_lookup : find foo.tif failed, error = -23 tar: foo.tif : cannot open; too many open files in system. Checking the file handles available showed that I am not even close to using them up. The following message occasionally appears on the server console, though I do not know if it is related with the above problem smb_instantiate: foo.tif failed, error -23, closing 186 When I roll back the changes and tested with the same files none of the above errors occur. Can anyone shed some light on what I may be doing wrong? Thanks in advance.
