[Nouveau] Second Monitor left of internal monitor turns internal monitor black
Hi there, a few days ago I installed Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 on my Thinkpad W530. It has the following specifications: Intel Core i7-3820QM Intel HD 4000 and nVidia Quadro K2000M 15,6" FHD RGB 1920x1080 I selected "Optimus" in the BIOS settings to activate both graphic cards. After installing the nouveau driver on Ubuntu via 'apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-nouveau' I was able to use my external monitor. But! My external monitor stands physically left of my laptop, so I also set it to the left in the settings in Ubuntu. After clicking "OK" my internal screen turns black and the external monitor shows the correct image. But I couldn't move the mouse to the internal screen. It persists on the external one. Without seeing what I do I was able to open the settings window on the external screen again to activate cloning of the screens. This works without a problem. And I also have no problems if I set the external screen virtually to the right of the internal one. My version of xserver-xorg-video-nouveau is 1:1.0.10-1ubuntu2. If you need some more information let me know. From your description, it sounds like it just turns off the internal monitor instead of setting the external one to be left of it. -ilia

[Nouveau] Second Monitor left of internal monitor turns internal monitor black
Hi Ilia, with 'xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --output VGA-1-2 --auto --left-of LVDS1' it seems to work properly. Thank you. Do you know about a tool which integrates well in Ubuntu? Maybe a GUI for xrandr? The other option would be to use some bash script, which also is okay for me. Just for your information the outputs of 'xrandr -q' and 'xrandr --listproviders': nicolas at tp-w530:~$ xrandr -q Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3840 x 1080, maximum 32767 x 32767 LVDS1 connected primary 1920x1080+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 193mm 1920x1080 60.0*+ 59.9 50.0 1680x1050 60.0 59.9 1600x1024 60.2 1400x1050 60.0 1280x1024 60.0 1440x900 59.9 1280x960 60.0 1360x768 59.8 60.0 1152x864 60.0 1024x768 60.0 800x600 60.3 56.2 640x480 59.9 VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) VIRTUAL1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) LVDS-1-2 disconnected VGA-1-2 connected 1920x1080+0+0 521mm x 293mm 1920x1080 60.0*+ 1600x1200 60.0 1680x1050 60.0 1400x1050 60.0 1280x1024 75.0 60.0 1440x900 75.0 59.9 1280x960 60.0 1152x864 75.0 1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0 832x624 74.6 800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x480 75.0 72.8 66.7 60.0 720x400 70.1 DP-1-1 disconnected DP-1-2 disconnected DP-1-3 disconnected 1680x1050 (0xd9) 146.2MHz h: width 1680 start 1784 end 1960 total 2240 skew 0 clock 65.3KHz v: height 1050 start 1053 end 1059 total 1089 clock 60.0Hz 1280x1024 (0xdd) 108.0MHz h: width 1280 start 1328 end 1440 total 1688 skew 0 clock 64.0KHz v: height 1024 start 1025 end 1028 total 1066 clock 60.0Hz 1440x900 (0xde) 106.5MHz h: width 1440 start 1520 end 1672 total 1904 skew 0 clock 55.9KHz v: height 900 start 903 end 909 total 934 clock 59.9Hz 1280x960 (0xdf) 108.0MHz h: width 1280 start 1376 end 1488 total 1800 skew 0 clock 60.0KHz v: height 960 start 961 end 964 total 1000 clock 60.0Hz 1024x768 (0xe3) 65.0MHz h: width 1024 start 1048 end 1184 total 1344 skew 0 clock 48.4KHz v: height 768 start 771 end 777 total 806 clock 60.0Hz 800x600 (0xe4) 40.0MHz h: width 800 start 840 end 968 total 1056 skew 0 clock 37.9KHz v: height 600 start 601 end 605 total 628 clock 60.3Hz 800x600 (0xe5) 36.0MHz h: width 800 start 824 end 896 total 1024 skew 0 clock 35.2KHz v: height 600 start 601 end 603 total 625 clock 56.2Hz and: nicolas at tp-w530:~$ xrandr --listproviders Providers: number : 3 Provider 0: id: 0x6f cap: 0x9, Source Output, Sink Offload crtcs: 4 outputs: 3 associated providers: 2 name:Intel Provider 1: id: 0x48 cap: 0x6, Sink Output, Source Offload crtcs: 4 outputs: 5 associated providers: 2 name:nouveau Provider 2: id: 0x48 cap: 0x6, Sink Output, Source Offload crtcs: 4 outputs: 5 associated providers: 2 name:nouveau It looks not normal that I have three providers listed here and two of them are exactly the same.
