[llvm-dev] Chris Lattner will remain on the LLVM Foundation Board of Directors
[sent on behalf of the LLVM Foundation, as its secretary] As you've likely heard by now, Chris Lattner is leaving his position at Apple, and thus will no longer be managing Apple’s LLVM efforts. This raised a question of whether Chris should be removed from the LLVM Foundation Board of Directors. After discussing the issue, the board unanimously agreed that there is no reason to change the board's composition, or anything else related to the Foundation's governance, at this time. Chris plans to continue working on LLVM community and project issues, including driving the relicensing effort. The community will have another chance to update the board at the next board reelection in 2018. Apple has publicly stated their commitment to the LLVM project [1], continues to be an important part of the LLVM community, and we don’t expect that to change. Several companies with a large involvement in the project lack employees on the board, which is due to the limited size of the board and the amazingly diverse contributors to the project. Because of this, board members are expected to work closely with everyone in the LLVM community, regardless of their affiliation.
