Hi all, With LightDM 1.7.0 we now support logind (i.e. systemd) and no longer require ConsoleKit. Ubuntu 13.10 will use logind instead of ConsoleKit and was one of the last distributions that I know of to switch. The question is, how long do we need to support ConsoleKit in LightDM? I'll definitely keep it supported in 1.8, but for the following release (1.10 I guess) do we need it? It's not hard to keep running due to the regression tests, but I'd like to drop it if no-one still uses it. If you are using LightDM and ConsoleKit (or know others who are) please reply here so we know who needs it and for how long. Thanks, --Robert -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/lightdm/attachments/20130520/1ff4fb7f/attachment.html>

In any case, we're definitely interested in ConsoleKit support. Regards, -- Yves-Alexis -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I know of a recent effort to get it into FreeBSD ports [1] and there seems to be some initiative in pkgsrc as well[2] though I don't know the status of that. A while ago Brian Cameron seems to have evaluated it for use in Solaris resulting in [3] but I don't think it ever worked and I'm not aware of any efforts of Illumos-based distributions interested in porting it. I don't speak for any of them, just pointing out something to be aware of. Hi, I've just installed the current archlinuxarm distribution. It doesn't provide a ConsoleKit-package anymore. Systemd-logind is running. Lightdm-package has version 1.6.0. Startup of lightdm fails with WARNING **: Failed to open CK session: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit was not provided by any .service files Is this a inconsistency in the archlinxarm distribution? Or is it my user responsibility to change some configuration files to force lightdm to use logind?? Is there any documentation on the lightdm consolekit-logind.switching implications?
