I this available for the current OpenSolaris? it would be great to have some
graphical administration interface.

No, it is not, for a couple of reasons.  First of all, rumor is that SMC is
being discontinued in favor of a WBEM/CIM-based management system.  Second, the
SMC code is not open-source, which means it cannot be included in OpenSolaris. 
It is included in Solaris Express Community Edition (SXCE), and there are
several posts and instructions available for installing the packages from SXCE
to Opensolaris.  Even so, some issues do tend to pop up getting it working - for
example, logging in is still got me stumped, because I can''t log in as
root due to Opensolaris'' RBAC configuration, but I also can''t
log in as the unprivileged user I''ve created.

You can also check out EON - go to http://eonstorage.blogspot.com/. 
Unfortunately because of a bug in the 128 version of the code, the latest build
you can get for EON is 125, which doesn''t include deduplication (if
that''s important to you).  I also don''t believe that EON
currently has a web-based management interface - it''s in the works - so
that doesn''t really help you there.

Any specific implementation meant? Are there any plans wrt OpenPegasus?

Yes, in fact the Openpegasus server is already included with Opensolaris under
the SUNWcimserver package.  I don''t know how extensive the
implementation is, though, yet - I was able to install it and get it running,
but not much beyond that.

They may not allow the end user to install a browser but there are lots 
of deployments of Solaris systems in the US DoD where the operating 
system provided browser (firefox) is used for administration and for 
access to web based applications.

I don''t follow.  Why would adding a web based management utility force
it to
be web-only?  The 7000 series has a VERY robust web GUI, but they also have
a CLI that provides all of the same functions.   Why would a web GUI cause
sun to go browser-only?
