[Xen-users] X fails starting with Xen kernel 2.6.22-14-xen on Ubuntu 7.10
Hi all! I''ve just upgraded my Dell/32bit system to Ubuntu 7.10 and installed Xen 3.1 from its repos. It finally runs kernel 2.6.22-14-xen. When I boot this kernel something concerning X/gdm goes wrong and it doesn''t start at all giving errors while attempting to log in (see attachments). I can just log in in a console. I tried to restart gdm with no kind of success. Booting kernel 2.6.22-14-generic let me work perfectly with no troubles at all. I found people having troubles with X at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/68440 but still no solution. Does anyone of you experienced something similar? I post some files in case. Thanks a lot in advance for any kind of help!! Emanuele _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I just installed Xen on Ubuntu 7.10 in VMware. The only thing I had to do was disable the hardware clock init scripts. I have had a problem with X with an nvidia card, needed to switch to the nv driver. You should check that the module is loading properly for your video card. The ''(WW) I810(0): Bad V_BIOS checksum'' errors concern me, as does not being able to open /dev/wacom, but after seeing:> (process:5411): Gtk-WARNING **: This process is currently running setuid orsetgid.> This is not a supported use of GTK+. This didn''t stop me from loading X on fedora, but your GTK+ warnings tells me Ubuntu is less happy about it. If indeed ''lsmod| grep capa'' doesn''t show the capability module loaded, I would find out why, correct the problem, and reboot. Good luck! _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Hi Jim ! First af all thanks. Unfortunately loading capability module doesn''t work leading to an "Invalid argument" error :-( I found several people facing the same problem with Ubuntu 7.10 but still no one found a good solution it seems. Now my system has become completely unstable so I''m going to install from scratch. Installing from scratch might work, or you may need to recompile Ubuntu''s kernel source .deb. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
