I just noticed something weird today after updating my system to RHEL 5.1. RH seems to be shipping xen 3.1 hypervisor with xen 3.0 userland. As the result, things are pretty much broken. ================================================# rpm -q kernel-xen xen kernel-xen-2.6.18-53.el5 xen-3.0.3-41.el5 # uname -r 2.6.18-53.el5xen __ __ _____ _ ___ ____ _____ _ ____ \ \/ /___ _ __ |___ / / | / _ \ | ___|___ / ___| | ___| \ // _ \ \047_ \ |_ \ | || | | |_|___ \ |_ \ / _ \ |___ \ / \ __/ | | | ___) || || |_| |__|__) |__) | __/ |___) | /_/\_\___|_| |_| |____(_)_(_)___/ |____/____(_)___|_|____/ http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/netos/xen University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory Xen version 3.1.0-53.el5 (brewbuilder@build.redhat.com) (gcc version 4.1.2 20070626 (Red Hat 4.1.2-14)) Wed O ct 10 16:30:57 EDT 2007 Latest ChangeSet: unavailable (XEN) Command line: /xen.gz-2.6.18-53.el5 # xm list Name ID Mem(MiB) VCPUs State Time(s) Unexpected error: exceptions.TypeError Please report to xen-devel@lists.xensource.com ================================================ Disclaimer : yes, I know I should report this problem to RH. Turned out to be my fault :-( Seems that I was running xend daemon from another version of xen 3.1. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=251669 says that RHEL 5.1 uses Xen 3.1, and the userland package was modified to work with it, but RPM version numbers apparently stay at 3.0.
