hi, i''d like to know about a problem i have: i run a Debian Etch with my HP dc7700 station with the kernel 2.6.18 i installed xen 3.1. it works fine. i''d like to add a another Sata hard disk BUT the Debian (2.6.18) don''t see it. But with a kernel 2.6.21, Debian see the both sata hard disk. the problem that i have a xen that run a kernel 2.6.18-xen...and with this xen 3.1 using the kernel 2.6.18, it see one hard disk. do you follow me...? i''d like to run xen 3.1 using the kernel 2.6.21 to have the both sata hard disk working... how could i make it right? i downloaded the source of xen 3.1 but when i make a # make world it seems that it download the kernel 2.6.18 to use Is there an option to add to the "make" to use the my kernel 2.6.21? my aim is definively to use xen 3.1 with the kernel 2.6.21. thank you in advance for your suggestions. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Morning koonz, ko0nz schrieb:> my aim is definively to use xen 3.1 with the kernel 2.6.21.as Xen 3.1 comes with kernel 2.6.18 and official xen patched only apply to this kernel, I guess it would be hard for you, to make 2.6.21 work. If you really want to use a kernel >2.6.18 you could try a fedora kernel 2.6.20. I am not sure but, I think I have read that SuSE-Linux tries to use 2.6.21!?!? Try to google and let us know :-D Now the thing I don''t understand: Your computer has _one_ SATA-Controller with two or more connectors. The first SATA disk works, the second doesn''t? Thats wierd, isn''t it? How do you know that it''s not working? My idea is, that maybe your udev just doesn''t create the device node /dev/sdb? Maybe you don''t have to switch to another kernel and just have to add this device node yourself!? It''s not about the quality of these distributions, it''s just a matter of the coherence of my network.> Now the thing I don''t understand: > Your computer has _one_ SATA-Controller with two or more connectors. > The first SATA disk works, the second doesn''t? Thats wierd, isn''t it? > How do you know that it''s not working?i''m not in front of my "work station". it seems that the sata modules was laoded. # fdisk -l don''t show my 2nd and 3rd hard disk i don''t have no /dev/sd[b,c]> My idea is, that maybe your udev just doesn''t create the device node > /dev/sdb? Maybe you don''t have to switch to another kernel and just have > to add this device node yourself!?perhaps, it''s a possibility. it would be very interesting if it just was a matter of "udev" because i could create the rules for the hard disks. ...But after moving to 2.6.21 Kernel version, no modification with "udev", after rebooting, the three hard disks were found... With Debian CD install, if i add the option "genric.all_genreric-ide=1" to the kernel, the three hard disks were founded with /dev/hd[a,b,c] For me it''s a kernel matter... right here, it''s not a matter about Xen. Sorry about that. thanks. :) _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
