I got tired of the Unhandled Exception (thread 0009) Error when starting excel with various builds/versions of wine, so I installed the Crossover Office demo today. It worked on the first try, but I still cannot get the regular version of wine to load excel. Since these are essentially the same code, what is being done differently that causes cxoffice to work but wine to crash? One thing I noticed is that there are no wine-pthread instances present when cxoffice is running, just wineloader. Please help me figure out what is going on and how to remedy. Thanks!
If you try all the things listed here http://www.winehq.com/site/docs/wine-user/bugs with the current release of wine, you'll probably get it working under wine. Also have a look at this page http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?appId=11 it has excel specific information. Ivan.

Look here for Office 2000 or Office 97: http://frankscorner.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=listarticles&secid=3 And notice that you need to take wine-20031212 or perhaps older versions. All never versions until now have drawbacks that make them unusable with the famous apps you want to use. I use very successful - Office 2000 (with all apps) - Notes - IE6 and many games and other apps with wine-20031212. Regards Joachim -- "Never touch a running system! Never run a touching system? The only difference is that it turns DGA on by default, it detects the drives automatically, and sets winver to win98. If you know which settings are causing the problem, please let me know. Ivan
