x-axis tick mark labels running vertically
I'm plotting obesity rates (y-axis) vs Public Health Unit (x-axis) for the province of Ontario and would like to have the Public Health Unit names appear vertically rather than the default, horizontally. I'm actually using the 'barplot2' function in the {gregmisc} library ... I haven't been able to find a solution in either the barplot2 options or the general plotting

lattice: How to vertically adjust an axis label?
Dear expeRts, How can I vertically adjust an axis tick label so that it is nicely aligned with the other labels? library(lattice) xyplot(0~0, xlim=c(0,3), scales=list(x=list(at=c(1,1.1), labels=c(expression(hat(theta)[italic(n)]),expression(theta))))) ## aim: move the leftmost expression up so that theta is nicely aligned with the second theta. Cheers, Marius

Multiple lattice plots on a page: aligning x-axes vertically
Dear R-help, I am creating a two lattice plots (a densityplot() and xyplot()) that have the same x-axes and then 'printing' them onto the same page, one above the other (see end of email for an example to generate the graph). With different labels on the y-axis for each plot the left spacing is different, and the x-axes don't align vertically. Although I can manually modify the

Labeling a plot's x-axis with 12 strings, vertically oriented.
Hello, I really enjoy using R for my plotting. I have a modest plot, containing 24 data points, across 2 lines,12 points each. Ideally, the x-axis would be labeled with a series of strings, oriented vertically. Here is the R container holding the Search strings: > Search [1] Route To: NCENGR Status: Open CR Route To: NCENGR [3] Status: Cancel

barplot with specific order of x axis labels
Hi all, I'd appreciate your help with this problem. I need to plot a barplot with the categories in a specific order. My data might be: hours Freq AN 10 MO 14 LU 30 I need the categories to be in the order: MO LU AN Is there some way to pass sort the dataset into this order so that it plots correctly when passed to barplot()? Thanks very much, Richie [[alternative HTML

plot vertical labels along x axis
I know how to print my own labels along the x axis: plot(1:10,xlab = "My label", axes = FALSE) axis(1,at=seq(1,10,by=2),labels=c("first","second","third","fourth","fifth")) Is there a way to make the labels print vertically along the axis rather than horizontally? (I'm not sure if this is even going to look all right, but I

boxplot: how to display x-labels vertically
Hi, I need to draw a boxplot for a dataset consisting about 60 groups, the problems is by default the x labels are drawn horizontally, so it is impossible to display the names of all 60 groups. However, if the labels are drawn vertically, it should be possible to display all names. How can this be done? Thanks. Steve [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

including tabular information with a plot in R Graphics
Hi all, I have a presentation problem that I cannot find a solution to in the documetnation. I have a nice barplot. Below this I would also like a table with some information relating to the plot. My idea was to have the plot and table on the same graphics window so I can output them as an image file for a report. Does anybody know how to include tabular information from a dataset or table into

axis labels disappear
When I do a plot, e.g. plot(1:10) and resize the window so that the x-axis becomes too small to hold all the x-axis labels, R automatically makes some of the labels disappear so that the remaining fit in the available space. I would like to be able to tell R which labels should not be removed. I've tried plotting the axis with axis() but this behaviour is still there.

Alignment of x-axis labels
Dear all, I'm having trouble getting the correct spacing between x-axis labels on a barplot. This is the command I'm using to generate the plot: temp <- barplot(precip, beside=TRUE, xaxt="n", las=1, xpd=FALSE, col="grey28", ylim=c(0, max(precip))) Here is the structure of temp: > str(temp) ?num [1:96, 1] 0.7 1.9 3.1 4.3 5.5 6.7 7.9 9.1 10.3 11.5 ... stretching text vertically
I'd like to stretch a plotted character vertically, to create a "sequence logo". Is there a parameter to allow stretching text() output vertically or squeeze horizontally? I know about Oliver Bembom's seqLogo library, but this generates a sequence logo plot using a separate bitmap device. I want to recreate the sequence logo *inside* an existing plot. Alternatively, is

vertically stacked area plot?
Dear all, I would like to create a vertically stacked area chart in R. The data are presented in the attached text file. I would like to see the trend in values for the different groups with sediment depth (that's why I would like to create a vertically stacked chart; normally sed_depth should be = x, but I want it plotted on the y-axis). In the packages available to create stacked area

Beautifying axis tick labels
Hi, For example, the y axis shows "0 500000 1500000". Is there any way to beautify the tick labels to get 0 5 10 15, and at the top of y-axis "x10^5" (superscript 5) ? My plots all have different ylim, how to perform the beautification automatically ? Thanks Stanley [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

\U with more than 4 digits returns the wrong character
Great spot, thanks Mark. This really ought to appear somewhere in the ?Quotes help page. Having a warning under Windows might be nicer behaviour than silently returning the wrong value too. adjusting x-axis labels
I am trying to tweak how my categorical x-axis labels are formatted in my bar graph. Specifically, I would like to a) decrease the spacing between lines (e.g. spacing between Dialium and guianensis) b) right justify the text and c) have each species name align with the center of the corresponding bar graph. A simplified version of my code thus far is as follows. I am using RStudio v.

vertically concatenating data frames
Hi, what is the recommended way to vertically concatenate 2 data frames with the same column names but different number of rows? My problem is something along these lines: df1 <- data.frame(var1=var1,var2=var2,var3=var3) # nrow(df1)=1000 df2 <- data.frame(var1=var4,var2=var5,var3=var6) # nrow(df2)=2000 I tried df <- c(df1,df2), no success. stack does not seem to be appropriate

Spacing between x axis and labels
Hi, my x-axis contains labels that consist of two lines (the actual label and below information about groupsize). Unfortunately, there is too little spacing between labels and tickmarks in this situation. Is there a parameter to tune spacing between axis and labels? Thanks, Chris

Graphics - Axis Labels overlap window edges
Hi, I am trying to put larger axis labels on my graphs (using cex.axis and cex.label) but when I do this the top of the text on the Y axis goes outside of the window which you can see in this picture -http://twitter.com/#!/robgriffin247/status/142642881436450816/photo/1 - (if you click on the picture it opens a larger version so it is easier to see the problem) is there anyway I can get R to not
