forward stepwise selection
Dear R-Help, My problem/bug came to light, when fitting a linear model using stepwise selection. I'd started with the straightfoward command step(lm(y~., dataset)) This worked fine, but because this starts with all the possible explanatory variables, it results in a model with too many explanatory variables. Hence I wanted to start with just a constant and do forward selection, to get a

OpenSSH 3.9p1 X11 forwarding
Hi, We upgraded from 3.7.1p2 to 3.9p1. The behaviour of the X11 forwarding changed significantly, it is much slower. See below the truss output (server side which runs 3.7.1p2) an check for the timestamp (6 seconds delay). Do you have any idea what may causes this behaviour? Platform is Solaris 5.9 Generic_117171-05. Thanks in advance, Andy Kocher 19279: 9.5463 sigaction(SIGCLD,

TCP port forwarding troubles?
Has anyone heavily exercised the TCP connection forwarding features in openssh? I use this feature quite extensively for secure web surfing. I run a ssh command like this: ssh -c blowfish -L3128:127.0.0.1:3128 squidmachine Then I set up Netscape on my local machine to use 127.0.0.1:3128 as a proxy server. Needless to say, this exercises the TCP connection forwarding feature quite heavily. This

process show uid not user
One of my user's processes shows up with the uid (numeric) rather than the user (alpha) on the ps command. The /etc/passwd file shows: theuser:x:500:501:The user:/home/theuser:/bin/bash But, 'ps -ef' shows the uid: 500 9041 8864 0 11:20 pts/1 00:00:00 ps -ef Allother active users show the user. Ideas? Postfix dying
Hello list, Postfix is dying on one of my servers almost nightly. This system is running CentOS5 with postfix-2.3.3-2. In the morning (after noticing it died) I try to run `service postfix stop` and I get a failed start. Running `ps ax | grep postfix` I can see one process still running for postfix. After killing this, I am able to run `service postfix start`. I see a lot of this in my
