reading quattro pro spreadsheet .qpw into R
I have many quattro pro spreadsheets and no quattro pro. Is there a
way to access the data using R, or any other solution that anyone can
think of?
thanks,

unoconv 0.4 issues
Hello :-)
Implementing unoconv 0.4 as a filter as per
http://trac.xapian.org/ticket/324 has exposed two issues with unoconv. The
first was fixed and is dexscribed here for community benefit; the second is
unresolved.
Software versions: unoconv 0.4 and OOo 3.2.1 OOO320m18 build 9502 on

PPT text extracter
Hi,
I've had a heads up from a user that catppt did not work at all on
semi-recent PowerPoint files (ppt, not pptx). I checked, and indeed it
misses most of the content on many files.
After looking around, I found Python code from the libreoffice project
which makes a nice ppt text extractor after adding a very thin command line
wrapper:

Staging area for data before read into R
I am wondering if there is a better alternative than Excel for data
storage that does not require database knowledge (I will eventually
have to learn this, but it is not on my immediate todo list). I need
something that is not limited to 256 columns... I don't need any of
the built in functions in excel just a spreadsheet like program with
cells that hold data in a data.frame format for a

(S|odf)weave : how to intersperse (\LaTeX{}|odf) comments in source code ? Delayed R evaluation ?
Dear list,
Inspired by the original Knuth tools, and for paedaogical reasons, I wish
to produce a document presenting some source code with interspersed
comments in the source (see Knuth's books rendering TeX and metafont
sources to see what I mean).
I seemed to remember that a code chunk could be defined piecewise, like in

How to turn a LaTeX Sweave file (Rnw) into .HTML/.odf/.docx? (under windows)
Hello dear R help members,
I have found several references on how to do this, my question is if anyone
is actually using them - and if there are some strong points on what to use,
and how well it is working out.
My goal is to be able to easily create docs from R, but to be able to share
it with other researchers (who do not use LaTeX) so they could easily
copy/paste the tables and edit them for

Clang project renamed
Hi everyone,
There are a number of issues with the current name of the Clang project:
* It is prone to incorrect type setting, typically as CLang, CLANG, or
most commonly c̦҉̫̘̺̹̖̗͒͆͋̈̃̇߯l߲҉̷̡̰̖͈̤̺͒҆̾̚͡͝a̺̹͍̔߭͠ͅn͋́͡g̱߫̉
* The C++ compiler ends in the string "g++", which causes problems for
compiler wrapper scripts
* The name has been used by a kickstarter project

2nd DC, internal DNS: dns_tkey_negotiategss: TKEY is unacceptable
Hi everyone,
I'm testing with a Samba4 AD network, and I have some problems with DNS on
the second DC, with which I could use a bit of your help.
I have an AD with two DC's, both Samba 4.2.3. On the first DC,
samba_dnsupdate works fine. With stock 4.2.3 I get the error
"TSIG error with server: tsig verify failure"
but the DNS updates succeed anyway, and after applying

Applying function to multiple data
Dear R helpers,
I know R language at a preliminary level. This is my first post to this R
forum. I have recently learned the use of function and have been successful
in writing few on my own. However I am not able to figure out how to apply
the function to multiple sets of data.
# MY QUERY
Suppose I am having following data.frame
df = data.frame(k = c(1:8), ratings = c("A",

I'm using the internal DNS on both DC's, so I guess bind access rights
aren't the issue.
Thanks for your answer though :)

Errors when trying to open odfWeave documents
Hello
I tried the odfWeave package today, by running the formatting.odt and
example.odt files that are included with the package.
They both ran fine, but when I try to open them in my OpenOffice
(OpenOffice 3.1.1 on Kubuntu 9.10) I get an error "Format error
discovered in the file in sub-document content.xml at 1293,124(row,col)."
I also tried to open them in MS Word 2003 (Windows

Yes it is.
I managed to make it work by specifying the primary DC as nameserver in
/etc/resolv.conf of the secondary DC. As soon as I do that, samba_dnsupdate
works on the secondary. When I change it back to use the local Samba as
resolver, it no longer works.
So it is a DNS issue (possibly related to replication

odfWeave: Combining multiple output statements in a function
What is the correct way to combine multiple calls to odfCat,
odfItemize, odfTable etc. inside a function?
As an example lets say I have a function that needs to write two
paragraphs of text and a list to the resulting odf-document (the real
function has much more complex logic, but I don't think thats
relevant). My first guess would be:
exampleOutput <- function() {

RHCE
I realize this is a CentOS mailing list but because it is based directly on RHEL, I would assume there are a few individuals who frequent the list that have passed the RHCE exam. I plan on taking the exam this March and was wondering if there are any tips you RHCEs out there could provide that may help me.
Thanks!

Possible buglet (wart ?) of odfWeave 0.7.6 (with workaround)
Dear List,
I have had problems inserting some (not all !) figures via odfWeave
(using print(someLatticeFunction)...). The figure was correctly
displayed in a R device window but the resulting ODF document displayed
the correct space for the figure and an empty frame with a "broken
image" icon and a "read error" mention.
Exploration of the odf (.odt, in my case) file showed

will anyone please share me some material on RHCE/RHCT, I am fighting for
the Quality Engineer in RedHat, and that may help a lot in the coming
written exam.
Many thanks and Merry Christmas!
