Extracting an object name?
Dear Sir or Madam:
This is an extension to a earlier post, about looping through several
thousand files, and testing student's models against a different
data-set, called rclnow, for "recall now".
The problem is, that the instructor never specified to the students,
what they should name their "lm" object.
So what they created was:
"arbitrary variable name"

Newbie question
Hi:
I'm loading in students test scores with:
> abntest <- read.table("scores.txt")
if I type:
>abntest
I get ALL the values. I want to be able to filter it by various things such as:
if( abntesr > 90) Print abntest;
and other logical operators. I'm sure this is simple for someone experienced.
Thanks,
Gregg Allen

Creating file names.
I have a function that is called from a "sourced" script, whenever
certain conditions are met.
I have this inside it: if(P > 0.9)save( file = today() , myLMSmodel );
This gives me files that look like this: Thu Jan 8 14:04:43 2009
That works fine on my Mac, but it would be much more convenient to
have something like this:
LMSMOD_Jan_08_09_1404
Does anyone know how I can do

How do I Edit Source Code Files On The Mac?
Hello!
I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.11 on a G4.
I use the "R" command, straight from a terminal, because the "GUI" is
slower, and I've never liked GUIs anyway.
I tried to set up my environment to use the vi editor, but it always
tries to save it in wierd things like this:
"/private/tmp/RtmpWIhhuo/41a7" 13L, 161C written
Sure I can "cp" it from that

Samba/Winbind issue
Hi,
I have an issue with Samba using winbind. We have Active Directory groups with underscores (for example sambagroup_underscore). But an underscore in Samba (Unix) is a space in Active Directory.
So my question is what character is used in Samba (Unix) for an underscore in Active Directory? Or are there other solutions to solve this?
I would be very happy if you can help me!

Samba 3.5.4: log.smbd: PANIC (pid 16232692): sys_setgroups failed
Hi,
We use Samba 3.5.4 using winbind on AIX.
The issue we have is that some accounts can not access the Samba share. The belong to the correct Active Directory group. I have googled and I have read something about too many Active Directory groups. Is this a know issue and is there a workaround for this?

smb_panic sys_setgroups failed
Hi,
We have Samba version 3.5.4 and we are using winbind (Active Directory) for authorisation.
The issue is that for most of the members of a Samba share it is not possible to connect this Samba share. This because of the error below. It seems to be that the number of Active Directory groups where this Samba member belongs to is too high.

Question for the list:
I have a small, aircooled pc server, which is running fine, but the log
gets filled with a series of messages saying the package, and each of 8
cpus is throttled because of thermal issues. Then, within the same
second according to the timestamps, it reports everything is OK and
throttling is off. This happens once every minute.
In reality, when I try performance

SFTP client script broken after OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 to 2.5.2p2-1
Hello friends,
I have a script that uses the sftp client to transfer a file to another
server using PK authentication. It was working until I upgraded from
OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 to 2.5.2p2-1 yesterday (on a RH Linux 6.2 system). The sftp
command is:
sftp -o "IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_dsa" \
$PUSERNAME@$PSERVER >$TEMPFILE 2>&1 <<-!
cd $PDIR
put $DOC_ARCHIVE
ls

Repost: Pluralization of non-noun names
People,
I didn''t get an answer to this before so I am trying again:
I could change an existing "policy" table to "policies" with no drama
but the are a number of related tables ie:
p_2quot
p_addr
p_cc
p_cs
p_direct
p_div
p_exss

Pluralization of non-noun names
People,
I have an insurance company client and for the last eleven years I have
wanted to completely redevelop their system from scratch. However, the
boss has never been interested in hiring a team to develop the new
system (partly because of the cost and partly because of some famous and
expensive development failures in the industry) and has always insisted
on incremental development of the

What is this relationship?
People,
If I have a table "books" and a table "comments" and if there is either
ZERO or ONE comment per book then:
- "Comment" belongs_to "Book"
but what is the relationship of "Book" to "Comment"?
Thanks,
Phil.

Design question: Years/Teams/Students
People,
I want to design a historical sports db for my old school. I think at
the moment it should be like:
A year has many teams
A team has many students
A student has one lastname, firstname and middlename
but a student can also have many teams (eg summer/winter abd over a
number of years) . .
Is there a problem with this? Doesn''t it just mean that there will be a
student table

Using metric units in plots
People,
It appears that one has to use Imperial measurements in plot parameters?
I can't find any info on using metric units . .
