Poisson-Gamma computation (parameters and likelihood)
Good afternoon/morning readers. This is the first time I am trying to run
some Bayesian computation in R, and am experiencing a few problems.
I am working on a Poisson model for cancer rates which has a conjugate Gamma
prior.
1) The first question is precisely how I work out the parameters.
#Suppose I assign values to theta with *seq()*
*theta<-seq(0,1,len=500)*
#Then I try out the

Out-of-sample prediction with VAR
Good day,
I'm using a VAR model to forecast sales with some extra variables (google
trends data). I have divided my dataset into a trainingset (weekly sales +
vars in 2006 and 2007) and a holdout set (2008).
It is unclear to me how I should predict the out-of-sample data, because
using the predict() function in the vars package seems to estimate my
google trends vars as well. However, I want

Thoughts
Hi,
After using a little bit oVirt, here's my thoughts:
On the Network part :
* In order to start the bridges, you have to reboot the node. It should be good to create the bridges "on the fly".
* The VLAN configuration seems not to work (you can create it but it's impossible to assign it to an interface...). You can also assign this kind of interface on a opennet
On the VM part:

Outlook vs Thunderbird
Got a client that usually uses Outlook I think 2010. This person tends to move
their e-mails to certain folers. On Thunderbird, the move shows.
Not on Outlook.
Any explanation?

iSCSI questions and VM Creation questions
Hi,
I finally managed to have one node working.
I added a iSCSI LUN (ok if selinux is set to 0) and wanted to create my first VM.
So I created a VM and had some issues:
* I can choose boot from HD but I'm just able to choose the LUN, not a specific size in the LUN like you can do in vmware ESX. So, do I have to create a LUN per VM? If yes, it's quite complicated...
* If I choose boot from

Yum segmentation fault updating from 5.6 to 5.7
I'm trying to update my CentOS 5.6 boxes to 5.7, and on every single one
of them yum is failing with a segmentation fault: the error happens when
yum is checking the 'base' repository.

Random Forests: Question about R^2
Dear Random Forests gurus,
I have a question about R^2 provided by randomForest (for regression).
I don't succeed in finding this information.
In the help file for randomForest under "Value" it says:
rsq: (regression only) - "pseudo R-squared'': 1 - mse / Var(y).
Could someone please explain in somewhat more detail how exactly R^2
is calculated?
Is "mse"

n step ahead forecasts
hello,
I have a question about making n step ahead forecasts in cases where test
and validation sets are availiable. For instance, I would like to make one
step ahead forecasts on the WWWusage data so I hold out the last 10
observations as the validation set and fit an ARIMA model on the first 90
observations. I then use a for loop to sequentially add 9 of the holdout
observations to make 1

Lattice: problem using panel.superpose and panel.groups
Hi. I'm embarking on my first attempt at creating my own panel
function for lattice graphics, and despite all of my online research
and pouring through the documentation, I cannot figure out how to
solve my particular problem. Hopefully, a generous fellow R user can
help.
I have some data that is split into two groups: some "actual" data,
and some simulated data,

Annoying winbind problem solved
I have been on the web for hours reading email postings about WINDBIND.
Here is the scenario. Samba 2.27 on Redhat 8, installed via the redhat
RPMs. the first interesting note was that there is no samba-winbind rpm.
It is a part of the samba-common.rpm in redhat. I have been using Samba
as a file server for quite some time. And 100% of my issues with it stem
from permission problems. So I heard

GPLPV version to use
I am using a standard Centos 5.4 setup, with kernel-xen-2.6.18-164.15.1.el5 and xen 3.1.2-164.11.1.el5.
I have just succeed in migrating an existing XP to this setup and installed successfully gplpv 0.11.0.213.
On an other 2003 VM, I am using 0.10.0.134 since several months without any problem.
Looking at http://www.meadowcourt.org/downloads/, it seams there is a lot of version in that

patch proposal for ssh-copy-id script
Hello everybody,
I write an update version of ssh-copy-id script in order to support
sshd non running on standard port 22.
So I added another parameter to the script to allow user to specify
the daemon port.
I've also changed the way the command line parameter are retrieved in
order to have a more "robust" way of getting them using getopts.
Due to this change host name must be

Which policy for ISDN BRI support in NT/PtMP ?
Hi,
As you may know, these ISDN BRI features are very important here in Europe
as ISDN Basic Rate Access is very popular among Small & Medium Entreprises.
I don't really know why but it seems that in many countries, default is to
install small PBX using Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP) mode as opposed to
Point-to-Point (PtP) which is the norm for PRI.
So basically, in several countries, SME

possible error in ssh-copy-id man page
The man page for ssh-copy-id says:
If the

option is given then the identity file (defaults to

Than a few lines later it says:
If the
.B -i
option is used, or the
.B ssh-add
produced no output, then it uses the contents of the identity
file.
Shouldn't the former line say "If the -i option is _not_ given?

problem with kerberos (I think)
Hi all,
I've got some problems to make work oVirt.
I've installed a Fedora 10 VM the lightest possible (nothing checked, even based) and installed after some packages (wget, sudo, acpid,...) and updated the system.
By the way, acpid should be a dependency of ovirt-installer because the installation fails if it's not available.
I've then installed ovirt (ovirt-server-installer

How to validate model?
Hi!
I am working on scorecard model and I have arrived at the regression equation. I have used logistic regression using R.
My question is how do I validate this model? I do have hold out sample of 5000 customers.
Please guide me. Problem is I had never used Logistic regression earlier neither I am used to credit scoring models.
Thanks in advance

Problem with user regsitration and ldap on SVN version
Hi guys,
I'm trying to use Asterisk with LDAP integration.
I created some schemas and it seems to work fine for sip.conf replacement.
When I try to register a softphone to test the service, it seems ok from the softphone point of view (user registred) but when I do a
"sip show peers", no one is registered (nor sip show subrscriptions, users...)
I put my Asterisk on full debug and I
