Will latest .deb pkg for Ubuntu Intrepid work on Ubuntu Jaunty
I'm trying to help someone to get the e-Sword windows app working under Wine. The Wine package available on Ubuntu Hardy, and Intrepid will not display the bible text, although the main window for e-Sword opens. I've installed the latest development version of Wine (.deb) for Ubuntu Intrepid, and although there are still a whole bunch of errors that I have to OK, eventually the e-Sword

samba4 on ubuntu intrepid, winbind success only in single process model
A brief rundown of my experiences with Samba4 <http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4> on Ubuntu Intrepid: http://ropeonfire.blogspot.com/2008/10/samba4-on-ubuntu-intrepid.html One note in particular that might be helpful to developers: I could join a linux machine running winbind 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3 to the domain only when running in single process mode. I'm still holding out hope

Removing pulseaudio affects startup / shutdown in Intrepid
I use Intrepid Studio, and have all updates as of today (29-Oct). As of a few days ago, my distro does not shut down or start cleanly. It is because I have removed pulseaudio. The same thing happens on shutdown when I have pulseaudio stopped with pactl exit. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what is the workaround when using wine? pasuspender wine application.exe ?? Thanks. Susan

glitchy sound with steam (half-life 2) under intrepid
I upgraded my machine from Ubuntu Hardy to Intrepid and now I get stuttering audio. I'm running the closed-source nvidea driver and a realtime kernel, like before the upgrade. Any ideas as to how I can speed up audio? -- David Griffith dgriffi at cs.csubak.edu A: Because it fouls the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? Wine 1.1.4--Intrepid--Photoshop Elements 6.0--can't install
I am trying to install Photoshop Elements 6.0 using Wine 1.1.4 under Ubuntu Intrepid. During installation, I get the following error: The ODBC installer DLL (ODBCCP32.dll) is not installed on this system. I personally use gnomesword2. I have not idea about any other WINE ports... but I find gnomesword2 to be effective.

Samba1.9.16 <1.5.4.32.19970911173832.008ebd1c@up-intrepid.unl.edu>
All, I have an entry in a user's log file that is as follows: 06/26/98 19:11:11 chdir(getwd: can't stat .) failed in unbecome_user Does anyone have ideas as to why this occurs? It happens *VERY* often when it occurs - like 40 times per second...and is generating huge log files. I found the entry in the code, and could comment it out, but I want to know why it's happening.

building Matrix on Ubuntu intrepid
For what it's worth, I found I had to sudo apt-get install libatlas-base-dev in order to get "libf77blas.so" installed on my system. (Everything had been fine under Hardy.) Is there a new dependency? cheers Ben Bolker

OSLEC not being loaded on Ubuntu Intrepid
I wonder if anyone has any ideas on this. I have recently migrated my server from a custom built Linux with Asterisk, Zaptel and Oslec running fine, to Ubuntu Server 8.10. I have Asterisk installed via synaptic at it works fine. I have built and installed the zaptel package by doing the following commands: sudo m-a -t build zaptel cd /usr/src sudo dpkg -i zaptel-modules-{version}.deb sudo
