R warning and error messages taking a long time and generating pop-up windows
Hi all, thanks for your help in advance.
I was running some scripts and suddenly R began taking a very long time to process mundane errors, which I often generate since I am new to R...such as forgetting to add in my quote
getOption(warn)
Error in options(x) : object 'warn' not found
Not only does the warning message print in the R console when it finally writes the error, but it also

Vector of Vectors
I have a matrix of data. I need to scan the matrix and find every
sequence from maxima to maxima across a row. I can write a loop to do
this easily. Problem is, I can't figure out how to store the results.
Each result is a vector of widely varying lengths. Ideally I'd like a
vector of these, i.e. a vector of vectors, so I can quickly iterate
through them and compute correlation

Bifurcating Autoregression
Is there any R package that implements a bifurcating autoregression,
aka the BAR(n) model? I've been reading the Huggins and Staudte paper,
"Variance Components Models for Dependent Cell Populations", from the
Journal of the American Statistical Association, 1994.

Thanks
Hi,
I just upgraded my system and my version of R all at once.? Upon running old code for heatmaps etc, I suddenly notice that there is an odd grid pattern

unsplit list of data.frames with one column
Perhaps this is the intended behavior, but I discovered that unsplit
throws an error when it tries to set rownames of a variable that has
no dimension. This occurs when unsplit is passed a list of
data.frames that have only a single column.
An example:
df <- data.frame(letters[seq(25)])
fac <- rep(seq(5), 5)
unsplit(split(df, fac), fac)
For reference, I'm using R version 2.9.0

Data Analysis/Graphics/Regression Modeling Strategies Courses
I am presenting two courses in Philadelphia in May-June organized by Insightful Corporation. These courses have hands-on workshops and have received excellent reviews from past participants (let me know if you want to see the reviews from previous years' courses). Both courses are applicable to S-Plus and R users. The second course covers regression modeling methods that are of interest to

lanyrd site for useR! 2012
There's now a page on lanyrd ("the social conference directory") for
useR! 2012 in Nashville:
http://lanyrd.com/2012/useR/
its basically a site for making social mini-networks for conferences,
so people can post up links, share photos, list talks, etc.
If people going sign up then it'll look a lot better than UseR! 2011,
where only three people seemed to have attended - but

Samba directory level security
Good morning all,
We are moving our web server from novell to unix (solaris) and will be using samba to allow users to edit web pages. Our samba instance authenticates using ADS and the users do not necessarily have accounts on the server itself. We are attempting to allow users to map a single samba share but only see the directories they have read access to (see configuration below). Any

eve online crashing shortly after takeoff
Hi all, I've got a strange problem with wine and eve-online. Eve loads up, lets me login and choose character, but freezes 10-15 seconds after that, pegging the cpu at 99% until I kill the process. Anybody have any ideas what causes that? Wall of text to follow, and am happy to post any more info needed. Thanks!
