Drawing lines in margins
Hi all, Quick question: What function can I use to draw a line in the margin of a plot? segments() and lines() both stop at the margin. In case the answer depends on exactly what I'm trying to do, see below. I'm using R v. 2.8.1 on Windows XP. Cheers, Alan I'm trying to make a horizontal barplot with a column of numbers on the right side. I'd like to put a line between the

Positioning text in top left corner of plot
Simple question how can you position text in the top left hand corner of a plot? I am plotting multiple plots using par(mfrow=c(2,3)) and all I want to do is label these plots a), b), c) etc. I have been fiddling around with both text and mtext but without much luck. text is fine but each plot has a different scale on the axis and so this makes it problematic. What is the best way to do this?

(no subject)
Dear listers I am a very newbie with graphs in R. I have a pulmonary function prediction equation in the form of PVC = 1.1 - 0.45*age in years + 0.011*height in cm. How can I draw the corresponding nomogram?. I read the help for the design.nomogram function but it is too difficult for me. Excuse my ignorance. Any direct help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sure, sorry about that -- FYI, the "Maintained By" link goes to your email, so you might want to change that. Coxph and ordered factors
Dear useRs, I am trying to fit a Cox PH model on survival data from a lung cancer dataset. I would like to include the patient staging (I-IV) as a covariate. For this I use the following function: coxph(Surv(time, status) ~ stage) The staging information is a categorical variable, and it is important to take the ordering into account (I<II<III<IV). Does the coxph function handle

Multiple plot margins
Hello I'm plotting 6 graphs using "mfrow = c(2, 3)". In these plots, only graphs in the first column have titles for the y axis, and only the ones in the last row have titles for the x axis. I'd like all plots to be of the same size, and I'm trying to keep them as near each other as possible, but I'm having the following problem. If I make a single call to par(mar =

controlling usage of digits & scientific notation in R plots; postscript margins
Dear R users: I assigned students to make some graphs and I'm having trouble answering some questions that they have. We are all working on R 2.1 on Fedora Core Linux 4 systems. 1. In the plot, the axis is not labeled by "numbers", but rather scientific notation like "-2e+08" or such. We realize that means -200,000,000. We want to beautify the plot. We would rather

Batch mode problem: figure margins too large
Hello, I have a program that works well in Rgui but that does not work in a batch file (Execution halted) Here's the code (it will work on you side, but you need internet access through R as it will download a table from a US gov site) download.file("http://www.cftc.gov/files/dea/history/deacot2005.zip", "c:/deacot2005.zip", "internal", quiet = FALSE, mode =

graphics: axis label
Hello, par(las=1) sets the orientation of the axis labels to horizontal. That is, the tick mark labels. How do I set the orientation of the axis label, which annotates the variable plotted along the axis, to horizontal? Sorry for asking such a basic question here, but I haven't found anything in the description of the "par"s. Greetings Johannes

text at the upper left corner outside of the plot region
Hi, is there a way to place text at the upper left corner (or another corner) of the plot? I want to place it really at the upper left corner of the whole plot (the file I get), not at the upper left corner of the plot-region. I tried text() and mtext(), and corner.label() of the plotrix package but it didn't work out. thanks!

RColorBrewer
Hi there everyone! So I'm a student in college, taking a very basic Statistics course. We're using R for most of our assignments. I've hit a pretty big wall here. I'm attempting to create a heat map of the entire united states which corresponds to a set of percentages I have for each state. My teacher suggested that I simply create a color palette with RColorBrewer that is in the

Troubles with plot margins
I am trying to set the margins of a plot with mai and I get a strange output. I write: plot(rnorm(1000),type="l",mai=c(1,1,1,1)) and what I get is a plot with unchanged margins and a column of four 1 plotted on the top margin. books on Time series
Dear list fellows, I want to study time series and use R to analyse time series of fishing data from several species (landings and cpue) investigating the correlation between them and with environmental factors (water temperature, wind, etc.). Searching at Amazon I found three books with examples in R: Time Series Analysis: With Applications in R by Jonathan D. Cryer and Jonathan D. Cryer

position legend below x-axis title
Dear helpers, I'm using a R script on several different datasets, which makes that axis scales may vary quite a lot from dataset to dataset. So what I'm looking for now, is how to automagically find out how to position the legend (horizontal) in the space below the x-axis title, and how to make sure that the legend is within the limits of the lower inner or outer margin? I'm aware of

How to get legend outside of plot?
I am creating a CDF plot function more user-friendly than any default r function. Depending upon the bimodality of the data (it is often bimodal), or any other strange data trends, the points can end up gathering in just about any corner of the plot. So, when I add a legend, whether I choose to add it in the bottom right, top left, or wherever, it will sometimes end up putting the legend right
