Using MathJax in R's help system
Hi, I am doing a small experiment to test if I can use MathJax ( official site: http://www.mathjax.org ) in R's html help pages (i.e. options(help_type='html')) and it seems working with some minor modifications. The screenshot (rendered by Firefox 4.0 beta and with STIX fonts) of the help page in html format with MathJax enabled is at the following url:

ellipse -confidence interval
Hi!, I made a plot with two variables representing the first two axis of a principle component analysis. My question is: How can I superimpose on such plot an ellipse that represent the 95% interval of confidence of scores? Best regards, Paula -- Lic. expression()
Hi, I'm trying to use expression() to write a text to a graphic in the margin. Using: mtext(expression(beta),side=1,line=2) writes a perfect beta greek character, but I need to add a subindex "max", and I'm trying: mtext(paste(expression(beta),"max"),side=1,line=2) simply writes "beta max" in the plot. Please, Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

\mathcal symbols in R?
Hello, Some time ago, I discovered the possibility of using mathematical symbols for axis labels etc. In order ensure consistency between text and graphics of some paper, I would like to include the calligraphic H (obtained in LaTeX via \mathcal{H}) in several diagrams. Is there any way to do so? Is it in general possible to use further mathematical fonts like \mathbb and \mathbf in R? Best

Observation in a confidence ellipse
Hello everyone I really need some help here. I made a confidence ellipse using the function ellipse from the package ellipse: ellipse(SD, centre=colMeans(pcsref),t=sqrt((p * (n-1)/(n-p))*qf(0.99, p,n-p)) Now, I want to write a function whom return TRUE or FALSE if a given observation is in the confidence ellipse. But I have no clue how to do it Can anyone help me? Best regards Jessica

confidence / prediction ellipse
Hi, I'm using the R library(car) to draw confidence/prediction ellipses in a scatterplot. >From what i understood the ellipse() function return an ellipse based parameters: shape, center, radius . If i read dataEllipse() function i can see how these parameters are calculated for a confidence ellipse. ibrary(car) a=c(12,12,4,5,63,63,23) b=c(13,15,7,10,73,83,43) v <-

Confidence ellipse for correlation
Hello, SAS' point and click interface has the option of produce a scatterplot with a superimposed confidence ellipse for the correlation coefficient. Since I generally like R so much better, I would like to reproduce this in R. I've been playing with the ellipse package. In order to have the points and the ellipse on the same graph I've done the following. (Load ellipse

[Package car/data.ellipse]: confidence intervals off by factor sqrt(2)??? (PR#2584)
Full_Name: Volker Franz Version: Version 1.6.2 (2003-01-10) OS: Debian Submission from: (NULL) (192.124.28.104) Hi there, it seems to me that data.ellipse of package "car" (Version 1.0-1) produces confidence interval's which are too big. To see this, do: library(car) plot(c(-2,2),c(-2,2),pch=0) data.ellipse(rnorm(10000),rnorm(10000),levels=0.68,plot.points=F) abline(v=+1)

When to use quasipoisson instead of poisson family
It seems that MASS suggest to judge on the basis of sum(residuals(mode,type="pearson"))/df.residual(mode). My question: Is there any rule of thumb of the cutpoiont value? The paper "On the Use of Corrections for Overdispersion" suggests overdispersion exists if the deviance is at least twice the number of degrees of freedom. Are there any further hints? Thanks. -- Ronggui

95% confidence interval of the coefficients from a bootstrap analysis
Hello, I am doing a simple linear regression analysis that includes few variables. I am using a bootstrap analysis to obtain the variation of my variables to replacement. I am trying to obtain the coefficients 95% confidence interval from the bootstrap procedure. Here is my script for the bootstrap: N = length (data_Pb[,1]) B = 10000 stor.r2 = rep(0,B) stor.r2 = rep(0,B) stor.inter =

plotting data with ellipse confidence intervals
Hi, I would like to plot a set of paired means (as X Y data) with unique confidence intervals for each (creating a set of ellipses, each with it's own centre point and shape). Would appreciate any advice out there! Cheers, Ged [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

3D ellipsoid confidence region
I am curious if there is code developed to plot confidence regions in 3D. The scatterplot3d function generates the plot I want, but would like an 3D equivalent to the data.ellipse function. Any help in this direction would be appreciated, be it theoretical, graphical, or otherwise. contour for plotting confidence interval on scatter plot of bivariate normal distribution
Dear all, I created a bivariate normal distribution: set.seed(138813) n<-100 x<-rnorm(n); y<-rnorm(n) and plotted a scatterplot of it: plot(x,y) Now I'd like to add the 2D-standard deviation. I found a thread regarding plotting arbitrary confidence boundaries from Pascal H?nggi http://www.mail-archive.com/r-help at r-project.org/msg24013.html which cites the even older thread

R function for computing Simultaneous confidence intervals for multinomial proportions
Dear all, Does someone know an R function implementing the method of Sison and Glaz (1995) (see full ref below) for computing Simultaneous confidence intervals for multinomial proportions? As alternative method, I think to boostrap the mean of each proportion and get in that way confidence interval of the mean. I observed 21 times a response that could be one out of 8 categories
