CTRL-C behaviour with RODBC on Solaris2.8
After loading the RODBC package version 1.1-7, Ctrl-C changes its
behaviour and is quitting R and returning to the (unix-)command prompt
on the solaris2.8 platform here. Here's what happened before and after
loading RODBC

unique columns in a matrix and number of each
I need help determining the unique columns of a matrix and the numbers of each unique column. For example, let's say I have a matrix with 6 columns, 2 of these are filled with the value of 1 and the other 4 are filled with the value of 0. I would then like to have a command that tells me what the unique columns are (so columns with 1s and columns with 0s) and the number of each type of

random value changes in a vector
To clear up a question regarding my earlier posting regarding random changes in a vector:
Say you have a vector (1, -1, -1, 1, 1, -1). I want each value in the vector to have a probability that it will change signs when this vector is regenerated. For example, probability = 50%. When the vector is regenerated, the first value in the vector (1) has a 50% chance of switching to -1. If I

X11 and vfonts modules on AIX 5.2
I am trying to get R-2.2.1 to pass make check on an AIX 5.2 at work (I know R-2.2.1 is not the latest release, but I encountered make errors in my attempts to install either R-2.3.0 or the R-patched_2006-05-10 on the version of AIX I am on. I will post those errors in a separate posting from this.)
So far, configure and make finish without error for R-2.2.1 using gnu make, gcc-4.1.0, and

AIX testers needed
Per the request to test the latest tarball referenced below, I have
built R on AIX 5.3. There is a memory issue, please see 3) below.
1) Build with --enable-BLAS-shlib option. Builds and
passes "make check".
2) GNU libiconv was installed; R configured *without*
the --without-
iconv option. Builds and passes "make check."

AIX testers needed
With much thanks to Ei-ji Nakama, R 2.5.0 alpha supports building on AIX
(at least AIX 5.2 on one system).
Would anyone able to test this please get the latest tarball from
http://cran.r-project.org/src/base-prerelease/R-latest.tar.gz
and try installing (after reading the AIX notes in R-admin.html section
C.9).
In particular it would be very helpful to know if
1) --enable-BLAS-shlib works

Aggregate
Hello to all,
I recently downloaded R to my PC and am enjoying getting acquainted with it. Thank you to everyone involved in the R-project!
I am interested in doing a log-linear analysis with R on a data set with dichotomous variables. There are 11 variables (columns) and around 1000 subjects (rows). How do I aggregate my data, i.e. how do I make a new dataset that includes the variable giving

PR#9295
I asked a question that might help me track down what changed between
2.3.1 that did build and the 2.4.0 version that will not build. Some of
the undefined names the linker was complaining about looked like #define
symbols that were not picked up by configure. The first thing I was
hoping for was to find out if this problem looked familiar? Whether or
not, I'm willing to try to work on

margin.table
Hello all,
I was wondering if the following behaviour of margin.table in R 1.3.0 is normal.
> mm <- data.frame(x=c(0,0,1), y=c(1,1,0), z=c(0,1,0))
> margin.table(mm,1)
[1] 1 2 3
<0 rows> (or 0-length row.names)
while using 'apply(x,margin,sum)' I get
> apply(mm,1,sum)
1 2 3
1 2 1
which appears to be normal. Similar behaviour when margin=2.
On the other hand, the

%*% in Matrix objects
Dear R users,
I need to normalize a bunch of row vectors. At a certain point I need to divide a matrix by a vector of norms. I find that the behavior of Matrix objects differs from normal matrix objects. Example the following code examples differ only in xnormed changing from normal to Matrix object:
x = matrix(1:12,3,4)
x = as(x, "CsparseMatrix")
xnorms = sqrt(colSums(x^2))

Embedding R in C application
To whom it may concern,
I am very interested in embedding the R functionality in our
application. This is a C application that currently runs on Win32, but
will also run on Linux in the future. From the material that I have
seen, I need R compiled as a shared library to evaluate R expressions
from C. Is this correct? If so, can I download this shared library from
somewhere? Is there any API

5.2 x86_64 DVD
I've pulled this down with Firefox, wget, a bittorrent client and an ftp
client using Windows as well as Linux hosts. Is something wrong with the
distributed DVD image? It has failed an MD5 check every time I've pulled
it down.

glm binomial logit
Hi All,
I am using "glm" function to build logistic regression. I noticed that glm
function glm function is computing many other statistics which are not
required for our analysis. As our dataset is very big and we have to run
logistic regression on several samples the run time drastically increases
if all those statistics are computed. Is these any way to skip computation

Output non-HTML (CSV) from Rails
Hi,
I want to offer a CSV download of data in my Rails app (eg. An "Export
to Excel" link to grab the current view of tabulated data).
However, I can''t seem to break-out of the Rails framework to output this
non-HTML data. Even if I eliminate my layout template from my view, the
most basic view (no HTML) will still wrap the output in

Linking C/C++ GUI to R.dll
Hi,
I am in the process of linking a C/C++ application to the R.dll
directly. I have obtained the R source code and compiled it
successfully. I have also successfully linked the R.dll directly into
our application and have made calls successfully into the R.dll that are
included in the sample rtest.c and in the "Writing R Extensions - The R
API".
The R functionality that we are
