Dinamic variables in loop
Hello, I am a newbie in R and I have a problem. I want this line: newMyData <-MyData[!(is.na(col1)) | !(is.na(col2)) | !(is.na(col3)) | !( is.na(col4)) | !(is.na(col5)),] write in for loop. The number of col[number] may be different from 3 to 8 Is there any ideas? Thank you Laura [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Dinamic variables in loop
Dear Laura, It looks like you want to remove all rows for which each column is NA. You can to that with the code below. na.matrix <- is.na(MyData) all.na.row <- apply(na.matrix, 1, all) MyData[!all.na.row, ] Best regards, ir. turning list into vector/dataframe
Hi, I have used this command : resamples<-lapply(1:1000,function(i) sample(lambs, replace=F)) resamples2<-lapply(resamples,Cusum) to get a list of 1000 samples of my data. The function Cumsum is defined as follows: Cusum<-function(x){ SUM<-cumsum(x)-(1:length(x))*mean(x) min<-min(cumsum(x)-(1:length(x))*mean(x)) max<-max(cumsum(x)-(1:length(x))*mean(x)) diff<-max-min

Plot of a subset of a data.frame()
Hello, my data.frame is sort of a collection of process values, i.e. huge run-chart. It consists of a time-stamp in the first column (date as string), factors in the following columns (used for subset-filtering), and some process-data columns. Hereafter, two examples are listed, showing the problems that occour during print: At first the example, that works fine:

Correspondence analysis/optimal scaling with ordinal variable
Dear R specialists, I have a multivariate statistics question that I want to submit to the R community (which conveys a very good statistical knowledge). I need to perform an optimal scaling based on a discrete variable and an ordinal variable. The discrete variable, Area, defines a geographical area. The ordinal variable, EducationLevel, describes the education level of individuals (the

Discriminant plot
Hi Alejo, According to my knowledge the two plots are different because in the first one a point belongs to a group depending on its group in the data whereas in the second plot a point belongs to the group predicted by the linear discriminant analysis. I hope somebody will correct me if I am wrong. Alain Alejo C.S. wrote: > Hi Alain, this is the code: > > > library(MASS) >

NAs are not allowed in subscripted assignments
I'm trying to assign NAs to values that satisfy certain conditions (more complex than shown below) and it gives the right result, but breaks the loop having done the first one viz: new<-c(rep(5,4),6) for (i in 1:6) {new[new[i]>5.5][i]<-NA} gives the correct result, though an error message appears which causes a break if it's in a loop. If I can get rid of the error message and

Passing colnames to graphics title
Hi, Just a quick query - if I'm creating a function to produce a number of histograms per page of output (one per column from a matrix), how can I pass the column name of the matrix into the title (or indeed to form part of the x-axis label)? Further png() question
Ok, I have reinstalled R-1.9.0 and this appears to have fixed the problems I was having with png(). However, I have a further question regarding png() Is it possible to pass a par() argument to the png() command? I am wanting to produce 4 plots per object, which I normally acheive on an X window by par(mfrow=c(1,4)). I have tried calling a new plot and setting par in this way but this has no

Creating 3D Gaussian Plot
Hello, I requested help a couple of weeks ago creating a dipole field in R but receieved no responses. Eventually I opted to create a 3d sinusoidal plot and concatenate this with its inverse as a means for a "next best" situation. It seems that this isn't sufficient for my needs and I'm really after creating a continuous 3d gaussian mesh with a "positive" and

a question on the use of 'solve'
Dear R users, I am in trouble using the function solve(matrix) in a loop. When it happens that I have a singular matrix, I get an error message saying so and the loop stops. My question is if there in any way to keep on going in the loop. Thank you in advance, Laura *---------------------------------------------------------* Laura Antolini, PhD Department of

str and Surv objects
Dear R People: I used the "Surv" function to produce the following object: >a <- Surv(1:4,2:5,c(0,1,1,0)) a [1] (1,2+] (2,3 ] (3,4 ] (4,5+] >str(a) Error in "[.Surv"(object, 1:ile) : subscript out of bounds > Why does str(a) give an error, please? cluster.stats
Dear list, I just tried to use the function cluster.stat in the package fpc. I just have a couple of questions about the syntax: cluster.stats(d,clustering,alt.clustering=NULL, silhouette=TRUE,G2=FALSE,G3=FALSE) 1) the distance object (d) is an object obtained by the function dist() on my own original matrix? 2) clustering is the clusters vector as result of one of the many clustering methods?

Stacking Vectors/Dataframes
Hello, Is there a simple way of stacking/merging two dataframes in R? I want to stack them piece-wise, not simply add one whole dataframe to the bottom of the other. I want to create as follows: x.frame: aX1 bX1 cX1 ... zX1 aX2 bX2 cX2 ... zX2 ... ... ... ... ... aX99 bX99 cX99 ... zX99 y.frame: aY1 bY1 cY1 ... zY1 aY2 bY2 cY2 ... zY2 ... ... ... ... ... aY99 bY99 cY99 ...

Hi dear list, If anybody could help me, it would be great! Reconstructing Datasets
Hi, Is it possible to recreate "smoothed" data sets in R, by performing a PCA and then reconstructing a data set from say the first 2/3 EOFs? I've had a look in the help pages and don't seem to find anything relevant.
