data -> data matrix that can be used in regressions
Dear R users, I have spent most of this day figuring out how to read STATA data into R (which eventually worked) and to run a simple OLS regression. It seems that the manuals are written in the most general and abstract way which does not really make it easy to understand what's going on. I'd be glad if somebody could save my day by: telling me how to define a matrix from the

HELP ON SCALING GENE EXPRESSION DATA TO -1,0,1
Hello R-Community, I am a rookie in R and I am fascinated with the power of bio computing by R. I am analysing gene expression data from Real time PCR. I have used absolute gene quantitation to measure gene copy number in all my transcripts. All my data has been normalised them to a housekeeping gene, which is constitutive expressed. My problem is as follows. After normalising some of the genes

I am having the following specific problem: a) when I input the data using the command > Wbdc <-read.table("wdbc.txt")? I do not see the data. b) When I want to run histogram using command > hist(area) I get an error message, Error in hist(area) : object "area" not found. ? I am

plot.hclust with lots of objects
Dear all, The default plotting method for hclust trees looks just fine for few objects like in the example dataset. But when it comes to many features (eg some 1000 and more - I'm trying to visualize clustered microarray data) it renders a tree, that one cannot inspect, because of overlapping text and lines. My question is, is there a way or a plotting parameter for plotting a tree which is

online tutorials
I work for a Investment group with a very extensive training program and we are having our new hires take a statistics course at University of Chicago where they have to complete some assignments with R. I was wondering if there are any online tutorials that exist where we could get our participants comfortable with R before the class itself? I appreciate any help at all. Thanks, Matt Maxon

concordance correlation coefficient using R
Hi. I have data which i would want to assess the degree of agreement between two assays, e.g., to evaluate reproducibility or for inter-rater reliability. I have used the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient. It looks good ranginging between 0.90 to 0.998. Though this looks good. I am told the Concordance correlation coefficient will give a better picture of how reproducible the assay

help with R
Folks, Two simple questions : (1) I have a data set (call it data.xls) in a folder in my hard drive. How do I perform a simple regression between two variables from that data set? After I click on 'R', what exactly do I type in? (2) Where do I get to see the complete library of packages offered by R? In particular, I am interested in quantile regression and logistic regression.

Sangoma A200D analog card with fxo's
FYI... Just installed one of the new Sangoma A200D analog pstn cards with the hardware echo canceller on a trial basis. The card has four fxo interfaces. Excellent audio quality, excellent echo cancelling, and excellent audio levels. The four pstn lines at this location are rather long analog loops that have rather long echo trails. I started with a pair of x100p's a couple of years ago,
