: writeMat
I write a .mat file using the writeMat() command, but when i try to load it
in Matlab it says that file may be corrupt. I did it a month ago and it
worked. It exists any option that I can change for making the file readable
to Matlab?
> A <- c(1:10)
> dim(A) <- c(2,5)
> library(R.matlab)
> writeMat('A.mat', A=A)
And what matlab say is:

Pb with R.matlab
Hello,
I have problems running the R.matlab package. I work with R 2.3.1, under
windows (using the Rgui). It seems that, even after loading the package,
the "simple" functions such as writeMat() or readMat() are not recognized.
For example, the following script leads to an error:
> install.packages("R.matlab")

Saving a 3d array into a matlab file
Dear R users,
I am tryting to save an 3d array to a matlab file like the following.
A <- array(1:24, c(2,3,4))
writeMat(filename, A=A)
But if I load the mat file from Matlab, it is not 3d matrix anymore.
Does anyone know how I can preserve the 3d structure?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Moving data between R and Matlab back and forth?
Hi to the list,
I am trying to find a way to painlessly move structured data back and
forth between R and Matlab (also Octave). For this purpose I found the
R.matlab package great help. I wish to use a Matlab -v6 MAT file as an
intermediary format, because it is well read by both Matlab and
Octave. It is also well read by 'readMat' function in R.matlab
package, but that is where I run

R and Matlab
Dear Group,
I am looking for ways to use R and Matlab. Doing the data transformations in
R and using the data in Matlab to analyze with some pre-defined scripts.
Any good ways to transfer the data into matlab in its most recent version?
I tried using R.matlab but the writeMat output is not readable by Matlab.
I just need to output a data.frame and read it as is into matlab where I can

[Hmisc] Latex to pdf
I would like to print some tables and figures to a PDF device on a CentOS 5
vps. However, I cannot seem to get the latex function from Hmisc working. I
followed the example, and got an error: sh: xdvi: command not found. I tried
installing the 'tetex-xdvi' linux package, and now it returns: Error: Can't
open display. I guess the reason for this is that the machine is a VPS
terminal, so

I am looking for a shorter way and more elegant to write the following

varname<-paste(model,'_shadow',i,sep="")
eval(parse(text=paste('writeMat(filename,',varname,'=Shadowlist[[i]])',sep="")))

Plotmath, sweave and lattice graphics interaction problem
Dear List,
I have hit this problem with using a plotmath expression in an axis
label on a lattice plot I'm including in a Sweave document. The actual
document is far too long and boring (unless you are interested in the
hydrochemistry of upland lakes) to include here, but the following
minimal example reproduces the problem; basically, the PDF produced by
Sweave has missing characters in the

sessionInfo() fails to correctly detect locale settings
Dear R devels
Yesterday I was slightly surprised to notice that R incorrectly
detected some of the locale settings. I am not sure whether this is
important, but I preferred to drop a message. In the R output below,
some entries that should have been "en_GB.UTF-8" are presented as "C".

Hi there.

R CMD check not reading R_LIBS from ~/.R/check.Renviron
Dear List,
Further to my earlier email, I note that, for me at least, R CMD check
is *not* reading R_LIBS from ~/.R/check.Renviron on R 2.15.2 patched
(r61228) and R Under Development (r61660). The only way I can get R CMD
check to look for packages in a user-supplied library is by explicitly
exporting R_LIBS set to the relevant directory.
R CMD build *does* read R_LIBS from ~/.R/build.Renviron

'date' format differences between CentOS 6 and 7 using the en_GB locale ?
Just noticed that the output of 'date' is different between CentOS 6 and
7 when using the 'en_GB' locale - e.g.:
CentOS 6:

% LANG=en_US date

CentOS 7:

difference in sort order linux/Windows (R.2.11.0)
Dear R users,
I'm a bit perplexed with the effect sort has here, as it is different on
Windows vs. linux.
It makes my factor levels and subsequent plots different on the two systems.

Fonts do not display properly in R 2.5.1 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
Dear All
I posted a similar question quite some time ago, but that was on an old
OS and an old version of R. This time I have RHEL 4, which is still
supported as an OS, and R 2.5.1 which is not *that* old.
My sessionInfo() gives:
