Set working directory by dragging text file onto R shortcut? [WinXP, unfortunately]
Hi R-helpers,
I must use WinXP at work, and I'm missing a particular feature that's
available in R on my Mac at home...
In WinXP I would like to launch R by dragging and releasing a text
file on top of the R shortcut on my desktop. Then, I would like the
working directory to be automatically set to the location of that text
file.
That's what works in MacOS, but I can't figure

How to save and restore a workspace
Saving your workspace means that the variables you currently have defined in your session [ everything that shows up when you type ls() ] are saved to a file, by default named ?.RData?. To restore the workspace, you use the ?Load Workspace? command and navigate to the (same) .RData file. Its default location for Windows, as far as I know, is your ?Documents? folder. So look there.
I see that you

Memory usage decreases drastically after save workspace, quit, restart, load workspace
Dear all,
I have the following problem:
- I have written a program in R which runs out of physical memory
on my MacBook Pro with 1.5 GB RAM
- The memory usage is much higher then I would expect from the
actual data in my global environment
- When I save the workspace, quit R, restart R and load the
workspace again, memory usage is much less then before

give me the possibility while running the windows application (Lotus
Notes) to accept this shortcut for Windowmaker ... is there a chance to

automatic cleaning of workspace
I'm having that problem where I am sometimes using an object that's from
a previous workspace when I don't want to be doing that. I was thinking
of putting rm(objects=ls()) in my first.R function But, the problem with
doing this, is that it doesn't prompt you with "are you sure" and there
could be very rare cases where I don't want to delete the workspace ? Is

if I cancel, it does not get cancelled. If I select either no or yes,
it quits. I do not know all of a sudden what happened? Right from
yesterday I am trying my best to run R but am not able to do so.
Please help.

Saving workspace image
Hi folks,
On quitting R with q(), is it possible to save the workspace
to a directory other than the one R was started from?
(I sometimes have a project "master" directory with the major
R code and data in that directory, but divisions of the project
having their specific stuff in sub-directories. So if I quit while
running a sub-project, I'd like to save the workspace back into

save workspace while running R on a cluster
Hello,
I have a question about running R in a cluster environment. The shell script
I am running looks like this:
#!/bin/bash
cd /nfs/apollo/2/c2b2/users/mb0001/Data
/nfs/apollo/1/shares/software/core_facility/local/x86_64_rocks/R/current/bin/
R --save < calculate.R >& script.out
I have used the "-save" command to save the R workspace (If, I understand it

Save workspace image? [y/n/c]:
and since I've probably got 3 R sessions running in however many
different directories and I might have jumped around with setwd() , I
forget exactly where R wants to save its workspace image. So could q()
be changed to say what file it is going to save to before it does?
Currently I have to hit 'c', then do

> save.image("a.Rdata")
> rm(a)
> load("a.Rdata")

Save workspace with ff objects
Hi All,
My script generates a mixture of normal and ff objects. I need to run the
script for different parameter settings. Very often I would like to save the
workspace for each parameter setting, so that I can get back to it later on.
Is there an easy way to do this, instead of needing to save individual ff
objects separately? I've tried the naive way of just saving the workspace,
only to

Prevent saving the workspace while running a script in batch mode
Dear R-user,
I'm running a certain R script in DOS batch mode. Is there a way to prevent
R from saving the workspace once this script is finished? I'm asking this
because the resulting .RData file has the size of >70MB. I don't need this
file since my script already writes the required output and this makes the
whole process very slow (>15 minutes each time)
FYI, my script:
