alternative for multiple if_else statements
Hi Kevin, I ran the code on the full data set and was able to reproduce the problem that you are facing. My guess is that you have an error in your intuition and/or logic, and that this relates to the use of the subscript [1]. Specifically, on the full dataset, the condition trialData$date[trialData$survey_start == "Y" & trialData$year == 2013 & trialData$site ==

alternative for multiple if_else statements
Hi, I am having trouble trying to figure out why if_else is behaving the way it is, it may be my code or the way the data is structured. Below is a snapshot of a database am working on and it represents a longitudinal survey of study participants in a trial with weekly follow up. The variable "survey_start" represents the start of the study-defined one year follow up (which we called

alternative for multiple if_else statements
I don't fully understand the logic you are trying to implement, but something along the lines of foo <- cut(trialData$date, breaks = as.Date(c("2007-01-01", "2008-05-01", "2009-04-01", "2010-05-01",

alternative for multiple if_else statements
That many ifelse statements is obviously rather a pain. Would you not have got what you want with ... paste("survey", year, sep="_") ? If that is not what you're looking for (eg because 'year' is the observation year and not the study start year), perhaps something that picks the minimum year for a subject or other relevant group might work? For example

RGoogleDocs ability to write to spreadsheets broken as of yesterday - CAN PAY FOR FIX
I unfortunately haven't received any responses about this problem. We (the company I work for) are willing to discuss payment to someone who is willing to quickly contribute a fix to the RGoogleDocs/RCurl toolchain that will restore write access. Please contact me directly if you're interested. Thank you, -Harlan Harris On Tue, Jul 20, 2010 at 10:19 AM, Harlan Harris

RGoogleDocs ability to write to spreadsheets broken as of yesterday
Hi, I'm using RGoogleDocs/RCurl to update a Google Spreadsheet. Everything worked OK until this morning, when my ability to write into spreadsheet cells went away. I get the following weird error: Error in els[[type + 1]] : subscript out of bounds Looking at the Google Docs API changelog, I see the following: http://code.google.com/apis/spreadsheets/changelog.html Release 2010-01 (July 14,

Problem with opening Excel spreadsheets that client cannot write to
We have some Excel spreadsheets stored on our Samba 2.2.8 fileserver. The permissions are set such that some users can write to these and some cannot, but they can all read them (the world-readable bit is set). When a user with read/write access tries to open the spreadsheet, there is no problem. The user is happy and productive and outside the sun is shining. Excellent! Have a biscuit! When a

Help Using Spreadsheets
Hello, I am a new user of R and I am trying to use the data I am reading from a spreadsheet. I installed the xlsReadWrite package and I am able to read data from this files, but how can I assign the colums into values? E.g: as I read a spreadsheet like this one: A B 1 2 4 9 I manually assign the values: A<-c(1,4) B<-c(2,9) to plot it on a graph: plot(A,B) or make histograms: hist(A) But

Comparison of demographics between 2 study samples
Dear All: I have a clinical study where I would like to compare the demographic information for 2 samples in a study. The demographics include both categorical and continuous variables. I would like to be able to say whether the demographics are significantly different or not. The majority of papers that I have read use multiple techniques to achieve this (e.g., t-test for the continuous

the joy of spreadsheets (off-topic)
Given that we occasionally run into problems with comparing Excel results to R results, and other spreadsheet-induced errors, I thought this might be of interest. http://www.nextnewdeal.net/rortybomb/researchers-finally-replicated-reinhart-rogoff-and-there-are-serious-problems The punchline: "If this error turns out to be an actual mistake Reinhart-Rogoff made, well, all I can hope is that

GIS re-mapping / polygon overlap
In Germany the Unemployment Agency uses a sectioning of the german map that is different from the usual Administrative Boundaries. Hierarchical data sets: which software to use?
Dear R-helpers, I’m writing for advice on whether I should use R or a different package or language. I’ve looked through the R-help archives, some manuals, and some other sites as well, and I haven’t done too well finding relevant info, hence my question here. I’m working with hierarchical data (in SPSS lingo). That is, for each case (person) I read in three types of (medical) record: 1.

Bug in nlm()
Dear all, I have found a bug in nlm() and would like to submit a report on this. Since nlm() is in the stats-package, which is maintained by the R Core team, bug reports should be submitted to R's Bugzilla. However, I'm not a member of Bugzilla. Could anyone be so kind to add me to R's Bugzilla members or let me know to whom I should send the bug report? Thank you in advance. Kind

wrong fill colors in polygon-map
Dear all, I would like to produce a map with information about the patenting activity in German districts, by coloring districts with different degrees of patenting activity in different colors. I work with the packages maptools, maps and spdep. The map data is read from an external .shp file (+ the corresponding .shx and .dbf files). Plotting a map with the IDs or the patenting indicator itself
