Spacing between lattice panels
I'm trying to set up a lattice plot with two y-axes for each panel. (Yes, I know that multiple y-axes are generally a bad idea; the graph is for someone else and they want it that way.) I've used a custom yscale.component in xyplot to achieve this: myyscale.component <- function(...) { ans <- yscale.components.default(...) ans$right <- ans$left foo <-

xyplot second y-xis and legend
Dear list, I try to set a secondary y-axis in a lattice xyplot. This works. However, I am unable to set a proper legend/key together with the 2nd y-axis under general xyplot procedures. See example below. The combination of the par.settings with simpleTheme and other settings seems to go wrong. I couldn't find a solution from previous topics. Any suggestions? thanks in advance! decrease amount of ticks on y axis in lattice levelplot
Hi all, How can I decrease the number of ticks on the y-axis in a lattice levelplot()? I have as many ticks displayed on the y-axis as I have columns of data (1000 columns), how can I decrease this amount of ticks, while still properly displaying all the data? Note that I get my data from a matrix object, in which the z-values of the levelplot are the actual values in the matrix, whereas the

Borders for rectangles in lattice plot key
Hopefully an easy question. When drawing a rectangles in a lattice plot key, how do you omit the black borders? Here is an example adapted from one on the xyplot help page: bar.cols <- c("red", "blue") key.list <- list( space="top", rectangles=list(col=bar.cols), text=list(c("foo", "bar")) ) barchart( yield ~ variety | site,

Saving plots as byte streams
Is it possible to save plots as byte streams? For example, if I want the bytes for a PNG plot, I could use #Write the plot to a PNG file png("test.png") plot(1:10) dev.off() #Read the bytes back in from the file plotbytes <- readBin("test.png", "raw", n=2000) Ideally, I'd like to avoid having to bother writing to the file in the first place, and simply

error bars in lattice xyplot *with groups*
Hi all, I'm trying to plot error bars in a lattice plot generated with xyplot. Deepayan Sarkar has provided a very useful solution for simple circumstances (https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2005-October/081571.html), yet I am having trouble getting it to work when the "groups" setting is enabled in xyplot (i.e. multiple lines). To illustrate this, consider the singer data

adding error bars to lattice plots
Dear R users, About a year ago Deepayan offered a suggestion to incorporate error bars into a dotplot using the singer data as an example <<http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/63875.html>>. When I try to utilize this code with a grouping variable, I get an error stating that the subscripts argument is missing. I have tried to insert them in various ways, but cannot

adjusting textsize and spacing in mosaic (vcd package)
I'm trying to find a way to change the font size in a mosaic plot (the grid version, not the base graphics one). Here's an example to demonstrate: #Basic plot library(vcd) mosaic(HairEyeColor, shade = TRUE) #Bad first guess: this stops the default cell colouring, and doesn't change the font size mosaic(HairEyeColor, shade = TRUE, gp=gpar(fontsize=16)) #This successfully changes

n=1 default for random number generators
One tiny thing that would be very nice to have is a default value of n=1 in the random number generator functions, enabling, e.g., runif() instead of runif(1). This won't break anyone's existing code and ought to be relatively straightforward to do. Is there anyone in the core team who would be willing to include this change? ----- Regards, Richie. Changing point color/character in qqmath
Having solved this problem, I am posting this so that the next time I search for how to do this I will find an answer... Using qqmath(..., groups=num) creates a separate qq distribution for each group (within a panel). Using the 'col' or 'pch' argument does not (usually) work because panel.qqmath sorts the data (but not 'col' or 'pch') before plotting. Sorting

Different labels by panel in barchart
Dear all, I'm analysing a survey, and creating a barchart of the different responses for each question. The questions are grouped according to a number of categories, so I'm using lattice to create a plot with each question in a category on it. The problem is that the response set for different questions within the same category varies. I want to be able to draw only the relevant

R2WinBUGS stopping execution
Apologies if this isn't acceptable for the general help list. I'm running OpenBUGS model via the R2WinBUGS package interface, under Windows. Is it possible to terminate running models, short of using the Windows Task Manager to forcibly exit the program? Regards, Richie. Lattice : Single reference line/label at 0.05
r-friends-- I am trying to make a lattice plot with a single label at 0.05. A reference line at y=0.05 as well... This is what I have so far. The label reads 0.0 and there is a grid instead of a single reference line. Can someone help please? Troy x<-18:35 (pv<-1/(x-17)) xydf<-data.frame(x, pv) print(xyplot(pv~x, data=xydf, type=c('p', 'g'), ylim=c(0,1),

lattice levelplot axis ticks labels
Hello, I've searched for help a lot and think I am close, but an still not able to place ticks and labels how I'd like in lattice's levelplot. I've come up with general reproducible code that gives the same problem as I'm having with real data: heat <- array(1:24,c(3,8)) require (lattice) ##basically I want a graph like this. depth y axis doesn't have ticks and

lattice contourplot background covers inward-facing ticks
I wish to have inward-pointing ticks on my contourplot graph, but the colored background produced by the "region=TRUE" statement covers the ticks up, is there any way around this? Sample code below. --Seth library(lattice) model <- function(a,b,c,d,e, f, X1,X2) # provide model function for contour plot {J <- a + (b*X1) + (c*X2) + (d*X1*X2) + e*(X1^2) + f*(X2^2) pp

Using key.opts in Ecdf/labcurve (Hmisc package)
I'm presumably missing something very obvious, but how does one use the key.opts argument in labcurve (via Ecdf)? In this example, I want the key to be big and have a blue background, but it isn't and doesn't. ch <- rnorm(1000, 200, 40) sex <- factor(sample(c('female','male'), 1000, TRUE)) Ecdf(~ch, group=sex, label.curves=list(keys=c("f",

RGui Configuration Editor crashes when using an unlisted font
I am using R2.9.0 under Windows XP SP 2 (32-bit). I just discovered a rather excellent programming font (http://www.dafont.com/bitstream-vera-mono.font). Since it isn't one of the fonts listed as an option in the RGui Configuration Editor, I manually editted my RConsole file font line to font = Bitstream Vera Sans Mono When I opened R, the text in the console displayed correctly, but
