Survey Design / Rake questions
I'm trying to learn how to calibrate/postStratify/rake survey data in preparation for a large survey effort we're about to embark upon. As a working example, I have results from a small survey of ~650 respondents, ~90 response fields each. I'm trying to learn how to (properly?) apply the aforementioned functions. My data are from a bus on board survey. The expansion in the

Trying to "expand" some data - Newbie needs help
I want to calculate "expansion factors" for elements in my dataframe based on a 2-d cross classification. Since I'll have "missing values" (many combinations will have no record) I'll need a second "expansion factor" for each "row". I've included my "work to date" below, but I'm not very close to getting this right. My

function merge()
Hi, Actually, i use the function merge like this: (Data1 <- Data1[1:7,1:3])   Policy.Number AXA.Entity Country 1    1060000077        BNL     BNL 2       4001023         CH     BNL 3    1060000006         UK     BNL 4       4001025         CH     BNL 5      6.00E+13        USA     BNL 6       6100001         UK     BNL 7       4001028        USA     BNL > Data2 <-

Simple Question: adding points to a boxplot
I apologize in advance for the simplicity of this question. I use R 2-3 times a year, and I seem to forget more in the intervening months than I learn during my days of panicked reading.... I HAVE tried looking at the help resources; I'm just not very good at understanding them. I have a dataframe with 18 observations of 5 different things, and a second dataframe with and estimate for those

NotePad++ Syntax file
Does anyone have an R Syntax Highlighting file {userDefineLang.xml} for NotePad++?? I've started one, but I'm not so happy with it. Still can't find missing data
I'm trying to prepare some cross tabs, looking at a number of variables against a variable "connector" which has 2 values: "OD Passenger" and " Connector". When I produce a xtabs one way I have observations under "Connector" but against a different variable "Connector" shows all 0 values. What is wrong? I've looked into the na commands

Known SIP - NAT Solutions?
I have recently begun experimenting with Asterisk, and have been mightily impressed by its capabilities and flexibility. I have run across one problem, however, that challenges my ability to use it as a production system. My Asterisk box has a public Internet IP, and works great with SIP (ATA 186) clients that also have public IP addresses. Unfortunately, most of the locations that I would

Simple (?) subset problem
I can't figure out the syntax I need to get subset to work. I'm trying to split my dataframe into two parts. I'm sure this is a simple issue, but I'm stumped. I either get all or none of the original "rows". > XTTable <- xtabs( ~ direction_ , SurveyData) > XTTable direction_ EASTBOUND

summing "transfers"
I have a dataframe from an On-Board Survey with weights ("expwgt") and variables for up to 8 used lines: VEH1 through VEH8. The lines are labeled "MT-..1" through "MT-902". I want to know how many transfers there are between MT-802 and MT-901. That is, when one of them is VEHx and the other is VEHx+1 or VEHx-1 E.g. {VEH1 = MT-802 AND VEH2 = MT-901 } plus {VEH2 =

T100P Incoming Calls Drop
I have been experiencing a rather odd issue with my (newly connected) T100P card. It is installed in my Asterisk server, which is working great with SIP clients. The card is connected to a channelized T-1 line (24 channels). The odd bit is that outgoing calls (Asterisk --> T-1 --> PSTN) works just fine. However, incoming calls (PSTN --> T-1 --> Asterisk) are dropped after about 20

Survey questions
First the R question. I have the results of a rather large survey (thousands of forms, each with dozens of questions) with some existing weights and expansion factors. I wish to add additional weighting factors, based on new information that elements of certain variables should appear in certain proportions. Where should I look in R to develop what is essentially an N-dimensional balancing

Constrain density to 0 at 0?
I'm plotting some trip length frequencies using the following code: plot( density(zTestData$Distance, weights=zTestData$Actual), xlim=c(0,10), main="Test TLFD", xlab="Distance", col=6 ) lines(density(zTestData$Distance, weights=zTestData$FlatWeight), col=2) lines(density(zTestData$Distance, weights=zTestData$BrdWeight ), col=3) which works fine except the

AMD64 vs i386, ifstat and bsnmp
Couple of little things I noticed with a new RELENG_7 AMD64 box (as of yesterday) ifstat from the ports cannot seem to find interfaces for some reason ? It works fine on i386 [ns8]# ifstat -b ifstat: no interfaces to monitor! [ns8]# [ns8]# ifconfig em0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500

How do I get xtabs to show missing data?
I presume the behavior below (no Connector values in the second table) is because I have na values in my dataframe. How do I get them to list? I found references to na.action and na.pass, but I could not figure out how I could use them with xtabs to list the na as a value. I'm sure there's a simple syntax I need, but it's not obvious to me. > # Weighted Data

newbie subset question
I want to look at all the records making up a "row and column" of a crosstab, but I'm not getting it right. I'm trying to use subset() but my selection ((prod_act=="other") || (attr_act=="other")) gives my no records. See the second table below. Getting just the row does work, as seen in the third table. Why is this failing me? > .Table <-

Tips on testing
Hey WWW::Mechanize users, I''ve been using Mechanize for about 3 or 4 months now, and I''m rather enjoying it. I''ve done scraping in PHP & Python, starting with raw text and HTTP requests, moving up to regex and Curl, and finally landed myself here, making me much more productive when scraping pages. At the moment, I''m in the middle of a decent sized

A minor beef
CentOS is a really great product, and the package supporters do a bang up job, but the one deficiency I've found is the fact that one can never rely on being able to get updates at any particular time. Whether it's CentOS proper or the Dag additions, something is broke most every time I want to apply updates. I know this is whin[ge]ing, and I certainly don't have a solution to offer.

2 part question
Is there a way to record your own voice messages ("Welcome to my PBX, Press 1 for ...") using asterisk and an analog phone, or do they need to be recorded using traditional voice recording software? Also, I am confused as to why my replies to the message board are never indented. Call this the ultimate newbie question, but how should the reply be worded so that I don't screw up

Rackmount PC hardware suggestions
I'm looking for anyone who has some vendors for rackmount PC hardware in a fairly decent configuration for Asterisk/Digium T1 termination. I am looking for well-built hardware from an integrator that understands correct component choice. Preferably, I'd like SCSI but I might be able to do Ultra-IDE platforms. I need at least two PCI slots in the chassis (so 2u/3u size factor is OK.)

How do I read a text (.csv) file to match a matrix/cross tab? (Object confusion??)
I'm having a problem reading data to set control totals for a dataframe. I want to adjust a dataframe based on a 2-d table of values, which I get by using : > CurrentX1Sums <- as.matrix(xtabs(~tripid_nu+lineon, data=SurveyData)) > CurrentX2Sums <- apply(CurrentX1Sums, 1, sum) I've created a .csv file with new (target) sums that looks like this: tripid_nu Warner
