ridiculous behaviour printing to eps: labels all messed up!
OK, this is really weird! here's an example code: t1<-c(1,2,3,4) t2<-c(4,2,4,2) plot(t1~t2, xlab="exp1", ylab="exp2") dev.copy2eps(file="test.eps") that all seems fine... until you look at the eps file created, where for some weird reason, if you scroll down to the end, the code reads: /Font1 findfont 12 s 0 setgray 214.02 18.72 (e) 0 ta -0.360 (xp1) tb

postscript printer breaking up long strings
For a long string in an axis title, or main title the postscript device breaks apart the long strings into smaller strings. For example, > postscript('linebreaktest.eps') > plot(1,xlab='aReallyLongStringToSeeHowItBreaks',ylab='aReallyLongStringToSeeHowItBreaks') > for(i in c(.6,1,1.4))text(i,i,'aReallyLongStringToSeeHowItBreaks') > dev.off() produces

Extreme value distributions (Long.)
This may not actually be an R/Splus problem, but it started off that way ..... ===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+===+=== Executive summary: ================== Simulations involving extreme value distributions seem to ``work'' when the underlying distribution is exponential(1) or exponential(2) == chi-squared_2, but NOT when the underlying distribution is

xfig device
Hi, I am VERY interested in getting the xfig driver so that I can edit graphical output from R. Searching through the mail archives and reading documentation isn't helping. Is there or isn't there a working driver for this purpose. How can I get it? I tried looking at the development version of the tarballs, but I didn't find anything that looked promising in there. Also, does

embedding fonts in eps files
Hi, I have to make eps files with fonts embedded. I use the following postscript command: postscript("fig3a.eps", width = 5.2756, height = 7.27, pointsize = 7,horizontal = FALSE, onefile = FALSE, paper = "special",family = "Times") plot(...) dev.off() Are fonts automatically embedded in this way? How can I see that? If not, how to do it? regards, Rudi.

On PostScript
I have been attempting to create a custom fax cover sheet for a hylafax web front end called avantfax. It requires as input an encapsulated postscript file conaining the glyph definitions and the text to be subsituted as strings having the form XXXX-to-variable or XXXX-from-variable. I have been trying to create a valid eps file using a varitiy of methods with no great succes. However, I ahve

Saving Trellis Graphics in R 1.9.0. (PR#6915)
Full_Name: Zdenek Valenta Version: 1.9.0. OS: Windows XP Submission from: (NULL) (147.231.7.250) I could not copy/save (Trelis) graphics using R version 1.9.0. The graphics displayed normally, but copying/saving it only produced an empty file. Everything works o.k. with R rel. 1.8.1. Best regards, Zdenek Valenta

grImport symbols
Dear list, I have two questions regarding grid.symbols() in the grImport package. This package allows you to import a vector graphic in R, and grid.symbols() can be used to plot the resulting glyph at arbitrary locations in a grid viewport. I have tried the code in the grImport vignette, which is most interesting, however I am stuck with two problems: 1- Is there a possibility to create a

2.0.0-prealpha*: Only 8.3 filenames with NT 3.51?
Hi all, We've been using the 2.0.0 prealpha's with some success, but now I have run into a problem which I can't seem to solve. The client, an NT 3.51 workstation logged in to an NT 3.51 PDC, can't create long file names on a 2.0.0 prealpha Samba server. For example, when renaming a file from 'readme.doc' to 'readme.pqrst', 'readme.pqr' is created. In

how do I use only black ink?
I have an HP Photosmart C3180 All-in-one. As I haven't had any need for color lately, when I last replaced ink, I only replaced the black cartridge. It didn't work, even when printing grayscale-only images, even when telling print-set-up grayscale-only. Is there a way to tell my printer to use only the black ink cartridge. My test image is a handmade postscript file that only use setgray

postscript failure manifests in plot.TukeyHSD
Hello R Developers, Dear R-developers, I ran some standard tests with currently (today morning) compiled R release candidate in Linux R 2.12.1 RC (2010-12-13 r53843). Some of these tests used plot.TukeyHSD function. This worked OK on the screen (X11 device), but PostScript file could not be rendered. The following example had the problem with me: postscript(file="tukeyplot.ps")

black and white colormodel for postscript figure
hi! I would like to produce simple black and white postscript figures for publishing. A black/white or grayscale or CMYK colormodel can be used, but not RGB colours. Can I produce postscript graphs in R that satisfy this? Following an earlier advice on the help-list I have tried using Photoshop to convert - but this seems to convert the vector format into raster format - giving larger,

Fonts too small in Photopaint 9 for Linux
Hi, I've got Photopaint 9 running fine under Mandrake 8 after running the postinst script. But, fonts used by Photopaint is so small and it is inconvenient to look at... My resolution is 1024x768 on GeForce2MX and Philips 105S (15"). After reading the Wine documentation, I changed the following: Resolution = 120 (from 96) In wine.conf under the [fonts] section, then logout, restart X

R GUI programming
Hi, All: I am having a problem with handling global variable value in GUI programming, I hope R gurus can give me some advice on it. What I want to do is to read in a dataset, display some information based on the input and do some calculation on the dataset: However, I am having trouble organizing my code, as the following code goes, the comboBox section will have to be put in the

Set font and size in xterm
I have a situation where gnome console does not handle vt102 escape sequences properly and therefor need to employ xterm instead. When I run xterm from a gnome terminal window I am presented with an extremely small terminal window employing an almost unreadably small font. I have attempted to set the font size using xrdb and a custom .Xresources file. I can change the colour scheme. I can

Re: LPRng: Putting a stamp on all printed sheet
Here is a an encapsulated postscript file and some raw, generic postscript commands to precede and follow the EPS file which puts a message on the page. I have tried this out on two postscript files and it works. NOW, you will have to generate this file for each print job with the appropriate parameters, including, I suppose, the right bounding box, the right location of the text, maybe change

Latin1 encoded AFM files
Hi, I patched my R-1.1.1 sources to add support for a couple more fonts to the postscript device. It works for alphanumeric characters, but I notice that I should be supplying an AFM file with ISOLatin1Encoding (I'm using a standard AFM for now, and get some parsing errors from R when I open the postscript device). Is there a program/script which will re-encode my AFM files from
