regrouping factor levels
Hi all,
I had some trouble in?regrouping factor levels for a variable. After some experiments, I have figured out how I can recode to modify the factor levels. I would now like some help to understand why some methods work and others don't.
Here's my code :
rm(list=ls())

fac<-factor(char)

Rmpi and x86
Dear R Gurus:
Is there a problem with Rmpi on x86 with SUSE 10.1, please?
I've tried everything and it still won't load.
Has anyone else dealt with this please?

[OT] putting URLs in Latex
Hi R Gurus!
This is definitely off topic, but I thought I'd try: what is the way
to put in url's into a Latex file, please?
I know that you start with a \newcommand statement, with some kind of
argument that will change, but I'm not sure how to set it up, please.

generating .Rd files
Hi R Gurus!
I have a package that I am putting together.
I waited until the end to do the documentation and would like to
generate a set of "empty" .Rd files.
Is there a quick way to do this, please?
Thanks,
Edna Bell
PS I can't seem to access the "Writing R Extensions" manual from 2.6.1
on Windows.

strsplit
Hello R Gurus:
I would like to take a character string and split at the $ sign.
I thought that strsplit would do it, but here are the results:
> vv
[1] "whine$ts1"
> vv
[1] "whine$ts1"
> strsplit(vv,"$")
[[1]]
[1] "whine$ts1"
Does anyone have any suggestions, please?

builtin vs. closure
Dear R Gurus:
I'm working slowly through "R Programming for Bioinformatics", which
is really interesting!
Anyway, my question now is: what determines if a function is a
builtin vs. a closure, please?
For instance:
> typeof(sqrt)
[1] "builtin"
> typeof(mean)
[1] "closure"

[OT] Linux/UNIX question
Dear R Gurus:
I'm trying to find R on another Linux system.
I'm using the find command, (surprise), but I only want to see the
output where it exists, not all of the other stuff.
Is there an option that I could select, please?
Right now I have
find / -name R
TIA,
Sincerely,
Edna

How do I compute interactions with anova.mlm ?
Hi,
I wish to compute multivariate test statistics for a within-subjects repeated measures design with anova.mlm.
This works great if I only have two factors, but I don't know how to compute interactions with more than two factors.
I suspect, I have to create a new "grouping" factor and then test with this factor to get these interactions (as it is hinted in R News 2007/2),
but

making R packages and compacting an entire R set up
Hi R Gurus!
I have 2 questions, please:
a. I'm putting together a little baby package on SUSE Linux 10.1. I
want to create a zip of the package for windows. How should I create
that please?
b. I don't know if the following is possible but here it is: I have
R and a bunch of libraries set up very nicely. I would like to hand
off this setup to someone else. Should I just copy

Newbie creating package with compiled code
Hi R Gurus!
I'm trying to create a test package using the package.skeleton function.
I wanted to add some compiled code too.
In the src library, I put together a baby subroutine, compiled it and created
a test.dll
When I use the R cmd build, it works fine. But I get into trouble
with the R CMD check section.

manova with Error?
Let's say I have a within-subject experiment with 2 observables, obs1 and ob2 and 2 independent factors, fac1 and fac2.
I can do
summary( aov( obs1~fac1*fac2 + Error(Subject/(fac1*fac2)) ) )
summary( aov( obs2~fac1*fac2 + Error(Subject/(fac1*fac2)) ) )
to test the 2 observables separately.
> summary( fit<-manova( cbind(obs1,obs2)~fac1*fac2 + Error(Subject/(fac1*fac2)) ) )

Scaling on a data.frame
Hey,
hopefully there is an easy way to solve my problem.
All that i think off is lengthy and clumsy.
Given a data.frame d with columns VALUE, FAC1, FAC2, FAC3.
Let FAC1 be something like experiment number,
so that there are exactly the same number of rows for each level of FAC1
in the data.frame.
Now i would like to scale all values according to the center of its
experiment.
So i can apply s

more environment questions
Hi R Gurus:
Here is some code that I was experimenting with, please:

+ return(mean(x))
