Order of columns(variables) in dataframe
Dear R experts,
I have a dataframe with 4 columns (variables). I want to redorder (or reposition) these columns on the basis of a value in its last row. e.g.
df1<-data.frame( v1= c(2,3,1,9,5), v2=c(8,5,12,4,11), v3=c(7,8,2,6,9), v4=c(1,4,6,3,6))
> df1

1 2 8 7 1
2 3 5 8 4
3 1 12 2 6
4 9 4 6 3

I wanto to get the order of df1 on the basis of

Help regarding arules package
Dear R experts,
I need help to make my little program efficient which now takes 2hrs to complete.
Using arules package I developed set of rules consisted of 900 rules. Now I want to check whether a lower rule is a subset of a higher premises rule. And if it is a subset of higher premises rule then drop this rule. I am using following code but it takes too much time.
nor<-length(rules)

loop in function
Dear Mailing-List,
I think this is a newbie question. However, i would like to integrate a
loop in the function below. So that the script calculates for each
variable within the dataframe df1 the connecting data in df2. Actually it
takes only the first row. I hope that's clear. My goal is to apply the
function for each data in df1. Many thanks in advance. An example is as
follows:

Plotting symbols
Has anyone got a cute way of compiling a table of the available plotting
symbols?
I've been repeatedly pasting in
cno <- cno + 1
cno
plot(x,y,pch=cno)
which is tedious, and besides I have to note down the symbols by hand.

sample(c(0, 1)...) vs. rbinom
Greetings.? My wife is teaching an introductory stat class at UC Davis.? The
class emphasizes the use of simulations, rather than mathematics, to get
insight into statistics, and R is the mandated tool.?? A student in the class
recently inquired about different approaches to sampling from a binomial
distribution.? I've appended some code that exhibits the idea, the gist of

Please explain "do.call" in this context, or critique to "stack this list faster"
I've been doing some consulting with students who seem to come to R
from SAS. They are usually pre-occupied with do loops and it is tough
to persuade them to trust R lists rather than keeping 100s of named
matrices floating around.
Often it happens that there is a list with lots of matrices or data
frames in it and we need to "stack those together". I thought it

x and y lengths differ
I have a problem with R. I try to compute the confidence interval for my
df. When I want to create the plot I have this problem: Error in
xy.coords(x, y, xlabel, ylabel, log) : 'x' and 'y' lengths differ.
I try this code:
library(dplR)
df.rwi <- detrend(rwl = df, method = "Spline",nyrs=NULL)
write.table(df.rwi,file="rwi.txt",quote=FALSE,row.names=TRUE)

merging data frames with matrix objects when missing cases
Hi,
I have faced a problem with the merge() function when trying to merge
two data frames that have a common index but the second one does not
have cases for all indexes in the first one. With usual variables R
fills in the missing cases with NA if all=T is requested. But if the
variable is a matrix R seems to insert NA only to the first column of
the matrix and fill in the rest of the columns by

I get the following errors (with the blanks and with blanks replaced by
NA and including the option rm.na = TURE):

Selecting cases from matrices stored in lists
Hi,
I have two lists (c and h - see below) containing matrices with similar
cases but different values. I want to split these matrices into multiple
matrices based on the values in h. So, I did the following:
years<-c(1997:1999)
for (t in 1:length(years))
{
year=as.character(years[t])
h[[year]]<-sapply(colnames(h[[year]]), function(var)

normal score transform
Dear list,
could someone point me to the normal score transform and it's use in R?
I would like to transform my data with normal score transform, do some
geostatsitical predictions and would like to transform the estimated values
back including the estimation variance.
Any suggestions?

If you have time, I'd appreciate anyone who can help test the release.
To test llvm-gcc:
1) Compile llvm from source and untar the llvm-test in the projects
directory (name it llvm-test or test-suite). Choose to use a pre-
compiled llvm-gcc or re-compile it yourself.
2) Run make check,

help
Hi all,
I have 2 questions:
1)How do I calculate the mean on an imported txt file? I've imported the
file below and that's what it looks like imported. How do I then calcuate
the mean, median, or mode on the column LeafArea using the desktop R
package?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,

[LLVMdev] 2.2 Prerelease available for testing
LLVMers,
The 2.2 prerelease is now available for testing:
http://llvm.org/prereleases/2.2/
If anyone can help test this release, I ask that you do the following:
1) Build llvm and llvm-gcc (or use a binary). You may build release
(default) or debug. You may pick llvm-gcc-4.0, llvm-gcc-4.2, or both.
2) Run 'make check'.
3) In llvm-test, run 'make TEST=nightly report'.
4) When
