boxplot changes fontsize of labels
Hi all! So far I learned some R but finilizing my plots so they look publishable seems not to be possible. I set up some boxplots. Everything works well but when I put more then two of them in one plot the labels of the axes appear smaller than the normal font size. > x <- rnorm(30) > y <- rnorm(30) > par(mfrow=c(1,4)) > boxplot(x,y, names=c("horray",

Combined plot: Scatter + density plot
Hi, in order to save space for a publication, it would be nice to have a combined scatter and density plot similar to what is shows on http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/RGraphGallery.php?graph=78 I wonder if anybody perhaps has already developed code for this and is willing to share. This is the reproducible code for the histogram version obtained from the site: def.par <-

stars graphs
Hi listers, A few days ago I posted a question about the use of the stars function on selected lines of a frame. Thanks to two helpers, a closer look at the scale argument allowed to partially solve the problem. Yet I still have a problem with stars. Allow me to explain what I intend to do (sorry for my poor English and the long post): I want to graph an activity index of a fish during the day

plot
Hello! I use the version 1.4.0 for Windows. I have made boxplots but only half of the symbols (three letters each) show up on the X-axis? How t can one change their size or orientation so that all show up? I attach the pdf file to illustrate better the problem. Interpolating variables within (RODBC library) SQL statements for MySQL
Hi everyone, I am desperately looking for a method to interpolate strings within an SQL statement as follows: I get a lot of rows out of a database (in my example POSITION_to_ZIPCODE Database with holds records for German ZIP Code <--> Gauss-Krueger Coordinate System ) and want this to be selected and computed individually row by row as follows: library(RODBC) channel <-

Plot symbols: How to plot (and save) a graphic symbols originating from a table
Dear all, Please, I have a doubt regarding symbol plotting with data originating from a table. Please, see below: I have a tab delimited file called table1.txt with 4 columns: ypos animal var1 var2 5 cat gina <= lady gina \u2264 lady 7 dog bill >= tony bill \u2265 tony 9 fish dude <= bro dude \u2264 bro #I then load in the data to R: table1<-read.table("table1.txt",

[LLVMdev] Documentation of malloc/free
Hi everyone, I noticed that MallocInst and FreeInst have been removed from the LLVM IR as well as the language reference[1]. May I propose that at least some placeholder is left in that document telling the reader that these instructions have been removed. This should be kept in at least until there is one official release that does not support these instructions anymore. The same goes for

plotting multiple lines on single graph ggplot2
Hello everyone I have some data of the following type. 100 200 300 400 500 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.5 600 700 800 900 1000 1.5 1.7 1.9 2.0 2.4 With plot() and points functions I can plot these 4 lines of data. But I dont know how to do it with qplot or ggplot functions. The scenario is something like this: the hundreds should appear on x-axis and the fractional values of y axis. Thanks alot. MEMON

Masking oceans using polypath
Hi R-help I am trying to mask the ocean from an image plot I have made. Here is some example code: library(mapdata) image(x=110:155, y =-40:-10, z = outer(1:45, 1:30, "+"), xlab = "lon", ylab = "lat") outline <- map("worldHires", plot=FALSE) # returns a list of x/y coords xrange <- range(outline$x, na.rm=TRUE) # get bounding box yrange

Changing radii line type in radial plots
Hello all, Is it possible to change the radii line type in radial plots? I wasn't able to find anything online. Thanks, Bern -- View this message in context: http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/Changing-radii-line-type-in-radial-plots-tp4647238.html Sent from the R help mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

help to use ppp in spatial analysis
Hi, i am using spatstat package for spatial data analysis and now i have a problem to create a point pattern. The points are in file "points.txt" (first column for Latitude and second column for Longitude ) and I imported them and separated each columns in two arrays x and y. If I plots x and y ( e.g plot(x,y) ) the result appears in square area without problems and the scale is

2D Random walk
I've wrote some code to simulate a random walk in 2 dimensions on a lattice. Basically I want to add something in to make it plot it point by point so you can see what is going on. Heres my code for the random walk in 2d RW2D<-function(N) { i<-0 xdir<-0 ydir<-0 xpos<-vector() xpos[1]<-xdir ypos<-vector() ypos[1]<-ydir for (i in 1:N-1)

Legends and Fonts
Hello. Is it possible to set specify the font used by legend()? I would like to specify a fixed-width font so that I can line up parts of vertically stacked curve labels. For example, it would be nice if I could align the names, ages, and weights in the following three curve labels: Bob age=7 weight=100 Alexander age=13 weight=150 Susan age=20 weight=130 Is there perhaps a clever

how to prevent "blinking" when adding an element with an effect
Hi, I add a div to my document and use an effect to make it apear gracefully. Unfortunatly, when adding the element, the element apears shortly, then the effect (slideDown) lets it apear nicely - so the page flickers abit - What is the best practice to avoid it? Cheers, Ron

heavy graphs
Dear R community, I am creating large graphs with hundreds of thousands of datapoints. My usual way for output was pdf, but now I am getting file sizes of >30Mb that do not open well (or at all) in Adobe. Is there a way to reduce the resolution or get rid of overlaying datapoints? Any other idea is also warmly welcome! Thank you and wishing you a good day! Georg. **********************

gif, jpeg and png image files reader AND tcltk image
Hi all, Roger Peng and Jason Turner's suggestion with ImageMagick seem to be the simplest "dirty" way to get the problem solved. But I ran into yet another interesting but quite round-about way to solve the problem (partially). Through tcltk package, one can read in the gif image with > x <- tkcmd("image", "create", "photo", file=mypic.gif)

No subject
Dear Friends, Yesterday I posed a question to the list concerning the possibility of doing animation examples in R. Here is an example S-Plus (4.5 for Windows ) that I wrote to illustrate my problem. If I try this in R (comment out the graphsheet and guilocator calls) I don't see my results until after the function has iterated through the 100 trials. I would like to plot each iteration.

Converting nested "for" loops to an "apply" function(s)
Hello, I would like to know more about how to use the "apply" family and have attempted to convert nested "for" loops in example code from Contributed Documentation ("The Friendly Beginners' R Course? by Toby Marthews (ZIP, 2007-03-01)") to an "apply" function(s). The relevant code is: distances=c(51,65,175,196,197,125,10,56) #distances of 8 houses
