partial SS for anova
Hello, I use lme4 package. library(lme4) fit=lmer(y ~ time+dye+trt+trt:time + (1|rep), data=dataset, na.action='na.omit') anova(fit) The anova gives sequential F-tests and sequential SS. My question is: how I can get partial F-tests and partial SS? For lm (not lmer) anova(lm(y~x+z)) we can use anova(fit, ssType=3) but it is not work for lmer. Natalia.

NLME augPred error
Could someone explain the meaming of this error message from augPred: > augPred(area3.pen.nlme, primary=~day) Error in predict.nlme(object, value[1:(nrow(value)/nL), , drop = FALSE], : Levels 1,2,3 not allowed for block > predict.nlme(area3.pen.nlme) does not produce an error. area3.pen.nlme was created with: > area3.pen.nlme <- nlme(area ~ SSlogis(day, Asym, xmid, scal),

Anova over a list of models
I have a list object, in which I have stored n lme4-models. For example: library(lme4); myModels <- list(); myModels[1] <- lmer(Reaction ~ Days + (Days|Subject), sleepstudy) myModels[2] <- lmer(Reaction ~ Days + (1|Subject) + (0+Days|Subject), sleepstudy) Now I would like to perform an anova over all models in the list. However, the anova function requires that every model is inserted

aov and missing values
I am learning R, and although I have looked in the documentation, I may be asking something obvious. Sorry, if that is the case. In a split-plot design if there is a missing subunit summary gives me a table with two rows for the same factor, one in the error within section and one in the section using error between units. With no data missing the table is "normal". How does one

unbalanced anova with subsampling (Type III SS)
Hello R-users, I am trying to obtain Type III SS for an ANOVA with subsampling. My design is slightly unbalanced with either 3 or 4 subsamples per replicate. The basic aov model would be: fit <- aov(y~x+Error(subsample)) But this gives Type I SS and not Type III. But, using the drop() option: drop1(fit, test="F") I get an error message: "Error in

Please help: ANOVA with SS Type III for unequal sample sized data
Dear R experts, I'm beginner. My question about ANOVA for unequal sample sized data should be obsolete but I can not clarify it. I have a dataset from 23 males and 18 females. I measured one condition('cond') with 4 levels. So I'd like to see main effect of gender, cond and gender by cond interaction and also postHoc test. (In fact, I have to do anova 90 times) * 1. Why can repeated measures anova with within & between subjects design not be done if group sizes are unbalanced?
Dear R people: I wish to switch from SPSS to R, but there is one particular type of ANOVA design that cannot be done in R. Or more likely, it can be done, but it is nowhere documented. The problem is typical for psychologists: You have a repeated measures design with different groups of subjects. Now, this can be done with the aov command, but the number of subjects in both groups must be

Type I and Type III SS in anova
Hi all, I have been trying to calculate Type III SS in R for an unbalanced two-way anova. However, the Type III SS are lower for the first factor compared to type I but higher for the second factor (see below). I have the impression that Type III are always lower than Type I - is that right? And a clarification about how to fit Type III SS. Fitting model<-aov(y~a*b) in the base package and

Trouble Computing Type III SS in a Cox Regression using drop1 and Anova
Hello All, Am having some trouble computing Type III SS in a Cox Regression using either drop1 or Anova from the car package. Am hoping that people will take a look to see if they can tell what's going on. Here is my R code: cox3grp <- subset(survData, Treatment %in% c("DC", "DA", "DO"), c("PTNO", "Treatment", "PFS_CENSORED",

quesion about SS of ANOVA
Hi all: I have a quesion about ANOVA: Is SS(Sum of Square) of a specific factor constant with the number of factors changing? dat1 includes one factor g1,and g1's SS is called SS_g1_dat1. dat2 includes two factors g1,g2,and g1's SS is called SS_g1_dat2. My quesion is: Is SS_g1_dat1 equals to SS_g1_dat2? I have both "yes" and "no" reasons for the quesion, but

ANOVA with many IV's
I'd like to conduct one-way ANOVA's on multiple IV's. Is there a function for "aov (y~"all of my IV's")? Thank you! -- View this message in context: http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/ANOVA-with-many-IV-s-tp3583788p3583788.html Sent from the R help mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

ANOVA Residual SS and MS of 0
I am trying to run an ANOVA on my soil respiration data, but I keep getting residual sum of squares and mean square of zero. As I understand it that would mean that the model terms explain all of the variation in the response variable. That should be virtually impossible, should it not? Where do I begin troubleshooting such a problem? -- View this message in context:

Morrowind GOTY 3-pack installation problems
Hello, I just installed wine and tried to setup Morrowind with it but installation program fails straight at start as InstallShield can't install something called iKernel. I've installed wine version wine-1.1.12 after several unsuccesfull attempts with latest stable release. The game is Morrowind 3-pack GOTY version - apparently. It contains Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon in one cd.

use of the 'by' command & converting SPSS ANOVA/GLM syntax into R syntax
I have two questions I would appreciate assistance with: (1) I believe "by" is the command used to split a file. In the following example, "mydat" is the dataframe , "group" the variable I want to split the analysis by & "WK1FREQ,WK2FREQ" the variables attach(mydat) by (GROUP) cor.test (WK1FREQ,WK2FREQ) I have also tried: (by (GROUP) cor.test

Off topic: SS formulae for 3-way repeated measure anova (for when aov() fails)
Pursuant to a prior "on topic" thread (http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e4/help/08/07/17192.html ) where I found I could not use AOV to perform an anova on my large data set, I'm now trying to code the analysis "by hand" so to speak. However, as demonstrated below, when comparing my attempt to aov() using a smaller data set, I seem to betray some sort of

a) t-tests on loess splines; b) linear models, type II SS for unbalanced ANOVA
Dear all, I have some questions regarding the validity an implementation of statistical tests based on linear models and loess. I've searched the R-help arhives and found several informative threads that related to my questions, but there are still a few issues I'm not clear about. I'd be grateful for guidance. Bug? (PR#1710)
Hi, I tried to do a multiple linear model from the example dataset Formaldehyde. However, the function lm() did not estimate the coefficient of the term carb^2. The same problem occurred with the (nlme)dataset Pixel with both function lme() and lm(). I am using the windows version of R 1.5.1 Lauri Mehtatalo The Formaldehyde example: > data(Formaldehyde) >

anovas ss typeI vs typeIII
Hi all, I have been struggling with ANOVAs on R. I am new to R, so I created a simple data frame, and I do some analyses on R just to learn R and then check them on SPSS to make sure that I am doing fine. Here is the problem that I've run into: when we use the aov function, it uses SS Type I as default (on SPSS it is Type III). Then I used the Anova function under cars package using the
