packfor
Good morning all,
I'm trying to find the package "packfor" to install on my library in R, but I'm not available to find it online, so I would ask to you if you please let e know how I could find it and if I need a special R version to do it.
Thanks a lot

regsubsets (Leaps)
Hi
i need to create a model from 250 + variables with high collinearity, and
only 17 data points (p = 250, n = 750). I would prefer to use Cp, AIC,
and/or BIC to narrow down the number of variables, and then use VIF to
choose a model without collinearity (if possible). I realize that having a
huge p and small n is going to give me extreme linear dependency problems,
but I *think* these model

How to compile sources?
Dear all,
I have read the on-line explanations I have found about Building R
from sources, and istalling Packages from sources...
Also, I have installed gcc4.0 and the gfrotran-4.2.1.dmg.
However, I still do not know how to use them to compile one Source
(in particular packfor_0.0-7.tar.gz) so that I can use it in R (for
MAC OS X).
Could someone please explain it to me in an easiest way

environmental data as vector in PCA plots
Hi,
I want to include a vector representing the sites - environmental data
correlation in a PCA.
I currently use prcomp (no scaling) to perform the PCA, and envfit to
retrieve the coordinates of the environmental data vector. However, the
vector length is different from the one obtained in CAnoco when performing
a species - environmental biplot (scaling -2). How can I scale the vector

library vegan - cca - versus CANOCO
Hi R users,
I have two data matrix, one with community data and another with
environmental data. Prior to preform the CCA, I have used PCA to select some
environmental variables and to avoid redundance information. The result is
that I have 4 environmental variables and my community data matrix where,
following bibliography, I have eliminated rare species.
All variables were log-transformed (x+1)

texi2dvi instead of pdflatex in R2.7.0? and related bioc 2.2 builds
Dear lists:
I am somewhat puzzled by the use of texi2dvi/pdflatex in R2.7.0. When
building EBImage (bioconductor) with 2.7.0 I get the same error both in
Windows and Linux, which reads the following:
** building package indices ...
* DONE (EBImage)
* creating vignettes ... ERROR
/usr/bin/texi2dvi: pdflatex exited with bad status, quitting.
Error in texi2dvi(file = bft, pdf = TRUE, clean =

var/sd and NAs in R2.7.0
Hello all,
I just upgraded to R 2.7.0 and found that the behavior of 'var' and 'sd'
have changed in the presence NAs (this wasn't explicit in the NEWS file,
though I see it probably has to do with the change for cor/cov). Anyway,
I just want to make sure that it was intentional to produce an error
when there was all NAs and na.rm=TRUE, rather than returning an NA (like

Total inertia in package Vegan?
Dear all at the R-project help list.
I have run into a problem when it comes to getting values for "total inertia" and "R-squared" for my DCA using "decorana" in the package "vegan". I have tried the "goodness" function, but the reply indicates that it does not work with "decorana" class objects. In Canoco one gets the Total inertia in

trouble with character \u00e2
Greetings R-wizards:
For historical reasons I have filenames with the character "?" and have
successfully used "\u00e2" in its place, with the hoped-for result on all my
on-screen plots.
However since R2.7.0 I have trouble with savePlot() when the file name
includes that character as it does in this example:
savePlot(paste("diagnostic ? vs a ", file.label,

Canonical Correspondence Analysis in R
I think i mentioned this in private communication a while back, but in
case anyone else cares:
I have a version of canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) coded up in
R. I based it on
Ter Braak and Prentice (1988) Adv. Ecol. Res. 18:271-317,
Ter Braak (1986) Ecol. 67(5):1167-1179, and

CCA - manual selection
Hello,
I am trying to obtain f-values for response (independent) variables from a
CCA performed in vegan package, to see which ones of them have
significative influence in my dependent variables (like the manual selection
in canoco), but I can't find any function (or package) that do such a thing.
The dependents variables are species data, and the independents are
ambiental data.
Than you.

bug in R 2.7.0 (PR#11497)
In the latest version R2.7.0 the following command does not work anymore:
x <- eval(parse(prompt = paste("give value for x > ")))
It does give the pompt, but the object x is not created.
We think this is due to a bug in the function parse.
best regards,
Wout Slob

rlm and lmrob error messages
Hello all,
I'm using R2.7.0 (on Windows 2000) and I'm trying do run a robust
regression on following model structure:
model = "Y ~ x1*x2 / (x3 + x4 + x5 +x6)"
where x1 and x2 are both factors (either 1 or 0) and x3.....x6 are numeric.
The error code I get when running rlm(as.formula(model), data=daymean) is:

issue with encoding in R-2.8.1 invalid multibyte character
Hi,
We recently switched from R2.7.0 to R2.8.1 but having problems tracking down this 'invalid multibyte character' encoding issue. Can someone point us how to solve this?

any DCCA function in R?
Dear members,
I am performing multivariate analysis on marine benthic populations
using R. At first glance I found ca and VEGANO packages to be the
suitable for the task, but neither has incorporated Detrended Canonical
Correspondence Analysis (DCCA), which is just the method I want to apply
on my data. I've looked for alternative packages containing the method,
but my suspicion is that

proper use of textConnection
Colleagues,
Using R2.7.0 in OS X, I am having trouble understanding the command
textConnection. My situation is as follows:
1. I am trying to read a lengthy file (45000 lines) that has headers
~ every 1000 lines. read.table (or its variants) fail because of the
recurrent headers.
2. My present approach is the following:
a. use readLines to read the file, save as an array
b. use grep

What changed in the R Windows interface from v2.6.2 to v2.7.0?
Dear R-devel,
I would like to launch the Rgui.exe from a Fortran console application (we
will call this FortranCon.exe), that I have written myself. To do this, I
send the command line "C:\Program Files\R\R-X.X.X\Rgui.exe" (where X.X.X is
the version number) as an argument to the
Windows API function CreateProcess (see

canonical correspondence analysis
Is there an R function that does canonical correspondence analysis. Can
it be done using the VR function corresp()?
If not, how hard it be to write R code to do it? I am a population
biologist with long but patchy programming experience in C, Smalltalk,
Java and other languages.
Thanks,
